Well...this sucks
Look, I know melee weapons are a thing and frankly I love my one handed blades that seem to bisect everything now....finally...after literally almost the entire time I have been playing (what kind of agent/mercinary did GRE pay for, the bargin basement type?).

But guns...I mean common. First off I haven't found an upgrade to my police rife since the gas station ambush with an attack of 288. My new upgraded crossbow does 480, almost twice my rifle! Never mind any of the other gun, and even finding a bright shiny new desert shotgun that has pump action...well it has worse accuracy then the duel barrel and the EXACT same power rater. What gives? Guns should be the most poerful weapons since they also get the drawback of attracting more powerful zombies. But not only are they the weakest weapons, but you apparently can't do anything to increase your ammo supply.

I can't figure out if this is a bug or intentional, and frankly that alone is killing my enjoyment. I might finish the story at this point. But not buying any sequels and frankly warning any of my friends to stay the hell away from this game. "Very positive"....yeah right. 9.9

This feels like a SLIGHTLY better version of Dead Island...wich the bar is so low with that game it's almost buried in the ground, so not saying much. At least that game let you mod your guns as well as your melee weapons.

You can upgrade your fire arm skills to boost gun damage in the legend skill tree.
maxing your fire arm skills out makes the shotgun ( at best ) do almost 9 k damage.
That stuff 2 shots volatiles.
Also guns are the most powerful , okay maybe your no legend level crossbow does more but try shooting off a demolisher helmet with an smg and do the same with the crowsbow.
Dont take me wrong crossbows and bows are amazing ( if not the best weapons ) you can have but you also dont take the headshot multipliers into consideration when talking about ranged weapons.
Terra Blade Feb 20, 2018 @ 12:18am
From what I have read the legend boost gives a percentage of about 10%. Which with a 288 rifle means...28 points. Yeah...I can see the 9k shotgun with my 910 shotgun which would also be...91 points.

Plus, I'm already in the following. and it took THIS long before melee combat actually started to feel good with lesser zombies now only taking a couple swipes of my scyth to kill with 680 damage. Now you say I have to play even longer until freaking GUNS have to feel good? Yeah...screw that. Like I said guns should ALWAYS be the more powerful weapon, it's a freaking GUN.

Just found out that apparently the same people who made Dead Island made this game...and yet somehow I don't feel as shocked as I maybe should be.

25/25 firearms increases damage by 1000% , thats x10
And guns are always the most powerful
on normal it rarely takes over 1 headshot to kill any normal zombie.
And to add to that , guns in Dead Island werent nearly as good / satysfying
Blade Master Feb 20, 2018 @ 2:33am
Dying Light isn't focused on firearms, it's more melee based game.

Developers intentionally didn't want it to turn into more shooting game.

As said above you can increase firearms damage, at 25/25 points, pistols and rifles will reach around 1,000, revolver 2,000 and shotgun 8,950.

At this point Normal mode will be best for firearms, but firearms become less useful on Nightmare mode, except shotgun.

Almost on the original topic...the shotguns clearly are the tactical weapon of choice later in the game. Not trying to hijack the thread.

Which is preferred from the standpoint of functionality? The Engraved Semi Auto or the Golden Double Barrel? They have the exact same stats, however I would think that the double barrel uses two rounds per shot and the semi auto just one, but at a faster pace with less reloading (holds 8 versus 2)?

Just don't wamnt to waste my rounds testing them...I'm playing in Hard and vendors don't sell ammo. Looking for opinions from players that have used both.

Engraved is definitely the best. Against volatiles, multiple of them.
Athos42 Feb 20, 2018 @ 1:18pm
If you're really close, you can still one-shot a blue Volatile on Nightmare with 25 legendary levels in firearms and using an engraved shotgun like Rusty Spine. If you aim for the head.

Ditto ~ when I do rarely find myself needing a firearm, that's my go to. She's the boss !

But as to the main topic ~ if your attempting to focus highly on gunplay in DL, your going to wind up sorely disappointed.

I never had a problem with guns.. a single shot to the head killed anything (except the stronger special enemies). Both the police rifle and the pistol performed well enough, offering 1-hit kill headshots on Rai's thugs, not to mention you can make them surrender by simply pointing a gun at them. The engraved shotgun does 2.5 k base damage, enough to slaughter a Freak of Nature even on Nightmare.

They way you just fully dismissed this game as awful and unworthy of playing, just because you don't like the guns is hardly fair, and I hope no person ever takes any of your reviews seriously.

I dismiss this game for quite a few reasons. First off, the guns. If the devs didn't want the guns to be central to players strategy they could have used a different setting. Hell a medival fantasy zombie apocolypes? Something that could be at least a refreshing take on the whole zombie genre? With no guns? Nope...just the same old same old.

Which is the biggest issue I have with this game. It's Dead Island, and as an internet reviewer put it "only done slightly better". The plot is so bad it makes carboard look in depth, the characters...hell by the time I got to the school I was despretly trying to figure out who I was supposed to be afraid of. The combat is a joke, and if after 35 hours I still don't feel like I'm getting anything good...yeah that is a problem in a loot driven game.

If anything the game dosn't even feel as inspired as Dead Island, at least that game went all out on trying to come up with crazy weapons. It even made sense why you sucked at first at fighting since you were just a bunch of nobodies. But here you get bargin basement secret agent, put into a plot that would make even the most die hard zombie fanatic roll their eyes, and the only thing that is somewhat fun is the parkour...except even that sucks since you can't do basic things like drop down ledges without killing yourself.

Sorry you feel offended that I feel this game sucks...but I feel this game sucks. I would ask for a refund but I know I'm well over the time. Only thing I can do is warn off others from playing this...well 'worn out cesspit' seems to be the only descriptor I can think of for this game.

There are pros in this game, every game has something redeaming. But sadly the cons far outnumber them.

I wish you could have found enjoyment in this game. It is obviously not the kind of game for you. I am someone who is very critical of games and with a tight budget to spend, and I had no regrets of buying this game.

I assume this is to be your public review as well ? Have you at least finished the game once ? 38 hours is barely getting to know it ~ it's the higher difficulties that will...help you appreciate having to work at progressing.

Nah, condensed it down to the important bullet points. If I were to list everything wrong with the game I might as well be writing an article. But now I want a fantasy inspired zombe apocolypes game, I think it could be a hell of a lot of fun if given a proper chance.
