It adds a lot to Dying Light, new weapons, zombies, items, side missions, story continuation of Campaign, drivable and customizable buggy, a huge detailed map to explore which is even bigger than Slums + Old Town combined.
If you enjoyed Dying Light then The Following is a must have.
Finish Campaign first before starting The Following. Each Campaign save has its own The Following dedicated slot in Main Menu > Play > The Following, which you can start anytime after finishing Prologue.
You use your own character from Campaign in The Following, you can also return back anytime from Main Menu > Play.
Then again, I am an explorer. And I really don't drive the buggy except in one mission that was required and to complete some challenges. Walking makes moving around the massive map a lot more satisfying.
Can't go wrong with it. A massive new map, new enemies, a few new weapons, a whole different way to play the game (the buggy), new outfits... All in all, this is a prime example on how a genuine expansion is done. They sell you a full delicious cake with the main game, and for half of its cost, the sell you another full cake later on. Too bad we don't see this anymore in videogames. Today is more like "Pay $100 for a few slices of our Ultimate Cake, then pay another $30 for the rest of it. $5 for each bite..."
