Every zombie is a runner, how do I disable it?

It's been quite some time since I last played the game, so I decided to start a fresh file since I don't remember anything. I'm in one of the initial quests, the one were you have to go get the covid shot from Zere but it's really hard. I have no weapons and no abilities, and Crane gets tired of running after a few seconds (I had forgotten how annoying was that, for real)

It's because of a community event, which are opt-out instead of opt-in. From the main menu, go to Options - Online - Community Events, set to off. This will not work while you're in the game and you may have to do this each time you play (I have had a couple times where it stayed off).
