Alt tab doesnt always work.
i like to listen to music or watch youtube while i play games.
but for some reason when i alt tab i cannot click anything but the game sometimes and then it will stay that way no matter what unless i hit CTRL ALT DEL, click the screen but not an option, then press esc.

is there a fix for this problem? other than CTRL ALT DEL?

the problem with doing that repeatedly is that my folders stop responding and i have to log out of my computer (i dont have to shut down).

im on windows 10

I've always been facing similar problem where I'm able to press nothing, game just refuses to minimize and it's basically being very stubborn. However I discovered that this issue is coming from GeForce's Experience, mainly from Nvidia Share. Enabling and disabling Nvidia Share overlay helped sometimes, or simply ending the NVIDIA Share.exe from Task Manager's Processes.

However, if above doesn't fix your issue, you should simply use the Steam Overlay's in in-built Web Browser, so far it's been most useful for me and far less demanding than having a browser running on background. I just logged in YouTube and have a playlist running fine without any problems in Steam's Web Browser, it's very quick and doesn't require minimizing at all.

I have same issue sometimes. My solution is to go Options -> Video and set Full Screen off and on again. Alt tab (or Win+D, which I use) should work after this.

Safer than ever. Don't ever alt+tab, drop that bad habit.

Hold the Alt button after Alt tabbing to switch between apps and desktop, tab will cycle through open programs

I have that issue where you can't click anything. FIx I found for it is to just right click something. Normal left click for some reason does not register. But after a right click the left click starts to work.

If you have a dual monitor setup right click anywhere on the other monitor, if you only have 1 monitor and the entire screen is still filled up from the game you can press the Windows key and right click something on the start menu or taskbar.

Having this issue as well. None of the fixes here work for me, I have to quit out of the game to be able to do anything outside of play the game. This is the only game that does this for me.

I've never been able to use anything but cnt - alt - del. Alt - tab just locks everything up.

You gotta hold tab and let got of alt or alt and let go of tab. That always works for me.
If that doesn't work, try pressing tab twice.

This is a 2017 thread... Today you can use a windows borderless option though.

Windows borderless option does not resolve this issue. This problem is even present when in windowed mode.

No i don't install that nvidia game experience crap. I only install the drivers for my card only and this happens to me also. So it's not the nvidia experience crappy software. It's something else.

It's a Windows shortcut to " Task Manager ". Works on any keyboard.

Simultaneously press Cont + Alt + Del.
