Do I really need the buggy?
It breaks down way too fast, it attracts so many Virals, and if you've maxed out Agility you can run non-stop almost as fast anyway.

The Following has huge land mass to explore even if it is often just empty fields and roads and roads. You do not need buggy but you absolutely want buggy.

Your buggy is fragile early one but once you get few skills into driving skill tree, it will significantly improves. My general advice is to play The Following after finishing vanilla game.

Once you get to Jasir's farm and obtain buggy, explore highway and find seller of buggy parts. Buy at least blue quality components, which will significantly improve its stats (most importantly handling). Do not immediately start ramming zombies because your buggy is easily damaged until you are able to install protective cage. Just do driving challenges, easy and medium ones, which should be great way to level up driving tree early on.

When you get further into driving tree and have protective cage installed, you can start mowing zombies on fields around Jasir's farm. This is good way to further level up driving tree. You should do all driving challenges you run into as they provide good experience and buggy parts.

Virals, while annoying at times, can easily be dealt with by either running them over, knocking them off your buggy by pressing dedicated button or using nitro. Buggy itself does not attract virals but you often run over bomber who will explode and summon several virals. Either speed away or stop, climb to high place and smash them to pieces.

You can generally do ok without it as long as you don't have invasions turned on.

Seriously, you will fall in love with buggy, it just takes a bit of time. Driving mechanics are simple enough so keyboard controls are not detrimental but at the same time fun enough to be engaging. You will slide, over or under-steer on bumpy fields and crash to objects but also be able to do big jumps, do high speed drive-throughs and mow zombies like there is no tomorrow.

Doing The Following without buggy is like doing vanilla without parkour moves and only on walk-speed.

It doesn't attract virals. Unless you ram the bombers or cause explosions. Also as you level up and get better parts, it'll take forever to break it.

It feels like it does though. Because as soon as I've driven for a while there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of Virals behind me. But if I walk there's none unless I make a loud noise.

Anyways, no matter how many virals come after you. You'll easily shake them off as you get better parts and upgrades. Get electric cage, turbos and etc, virals never disturb me even on Nightmare difficulty, and I'm only using tier 3 parts, whole driver skill-tree maxed out.

Why using only blue parts? Buggy becomes entirely new beast when equipped with military-grade parts....I can get from Jasir's farm to Damn under 4 minutes and it is hella fun!

Yeah, I know. I'm kinda procrastinating or saving it for later, currently I'm not playing The Following, at all. I've only beaten the game completely on Normal mode, and played on Hard and Nightmare, but I wanna return again and beat it on Hard mode just for fun, then restart and beat it on Nightmare on 100%. For now I have no issues even with tier 3 parts.

Currently not feeling like playing The Following, only doing invasions with friends.

If you lack screws to repair, the farm you aquire the buggy from and the area with the kids mission and the Big Guy has lots of loot and it respawns. Other wise always scrap broken buggy upgrades for screws dont sell them and loot all vehicles you see for screws and fuel.

The first time I played through the Following, I didn't like the buggy either. I couldn't figure out how to drive it well, and I was scared that it would break down and leave me between safe houses, close to night.

However, there's a couple of missions where you're being timed to get to another location. For the first, which is early in the game, you'll want the buggy. I can't remember but I think it's possible to do it by running, but it's easier with the buggy. The second time is the finale, and you'll need the buggy by then. I think even if you're using the speed potion, you can't cover the distance running, in time.

Because I wanted the buggy with fast parts, for the finale, after completing a lot of the Following by just running everywhere, I spent a good chunk of the time just driving and increasing my Driver level before I could finish the game. After the second play through, I started to get the hang of the buggy. I leveled up during the game progression, and I realize that in addition to moving around, the buggy is really good at one other thing. It's a great weapon.

For example, I hate getting shot and killed by Rais' thugs on the road. With the electric cage, I can drive my buggy either over them right away, or get close, and then hit the electric cage. Electric cage is also great for Virals, just make sure you let them all get close to your buggy, before you hit it.

Also throughout all of Dying Light I'm usually running away from Volatiles, especially the evolved ones. In the Following, when I'm in my buggy, and I see one in front of me, I aim for them. (You have to be careful to not let them get behind you because they can kill you fast, but if you have the UV cage, that will make them stop).

Bottom line. The buggy is really cool, once you start to use it as a weapon.

I found it annoying at first as I'm not a fan of driving games or their mechanics, but the devs really did a fantastic job. I fell in love with it later on.

Farm, farm, farm for parts and fuel, get those top tier upgrades ( military chests ) and go run everything over !

Buggy is pretty ♥♥♥♥ at the beginning. Go for offroad suspension upgrade and the rest is a cakewalk. The following is really big and you can travel on foot, but itll take you 3x as long even if you try to use the grappling hook for extra speed. Night time is hell for both buggy and walking as there are massive hords of Volitiles around.

EDIT: if you are low on parts and have cash to burn, there is a mechanic hiding around that will sell you the upgrades for a bit of dough.

The electric cage made a whole world of difference. I now let all the Virals gangbang my buggy, then zap the ♥♥♥♥ outta them.

I just started the DLC right after beating the game, can't tell yeah how much I love the buggy and think it's just a better way to introduce something different into the game. Going from climbing, running away constantly in the entire game, to driving a fast ass buggy. I unno I fell in love with it, the only thing I dislike about the DLC is just the many side quests and not that much plot (so far)
