Should I buy the bow? Is it any good?

I've just started finding ammo for my rifle, and so far melee for zombies, guns for humans seem to the way to go.

Well if you get the bozak bow it's the best one in the game. very damaging and fast drawing as well. im not sure about the regular bow though I haven't used it in a while.

The normal bow isn't very good, but once the quartermasters have them in stock, they can be farmed for free, and sold to vendors for early game cash.

Ranger/Bozak bows, along with Heatwave/Ultimate crossbows perform amazingly with headshots. Ranger and Heatwave must be bought with real world money (outfit DLCs), but can be crafted almost immediately. In addition, all the special arrow blueprints are available early game, instead of having to wait. Meanwhile, if the quartermaster in The Following is unlocked, he even spawns special bolts. All of the better bow and crossbows do similar damage, example from a table:

Regular bow is good enough to deal with humanoids if you go close and aim for the head - even on nightmare. However it comes with an awful auto-aim from a distance, making headshots impossible.

Dont buy the bow if you have the ranger bow DLC. You can craft it very early on with minimal materials and it pretty much one shots everything to make the grind easier early game.

Ranger Bow is equal to the Bozak and faaar better than the stock bow. Well worth the DLC price on its own. My steady primary 👍

Ranger Bow is insanely useful, I go out of my way to break nail planks in trash bins to get the extra nails lol.
You are never out powered with that bow in hand, makes the prison a cake walk.

WOOT! I started a new character today. At level Survivor 2, opened my first hard locker and got a King, placed it on my Ranger, since it will never be obsolete :D

Doh! I see. I wasted 4 points of the King. Oh well, no biggie, i just got over excited.

In that case, as Overseer mentioned, you can make the normal bow work with practice. That is what I used in my first playthrough. Add - It is useful as an explosive arrow lobber.

It is probably easier and faster to get the Ultimate Crossbow (The Following), rather than the Bozak Bow and arrow blueprints (Bozak Horde/Arena + Challenges) .
