Is the orange one really worth it? I have the purple one, but I see the orange one in the shops from time to time. Damage, accuracy and rate of fire are all the same as the one I already own.

Makes no difference. That gold just sparkles up your inventory.

What will make the difference is putting legend points into Firearms. Guns can then actually be very useful.

The colors of the weapons' just indicate their "rarities", that's all. With Orange and Gold both being LEGENDARY, albeit depends on your Survivor's Legend Level. The higher your rank, the more often you're gonna stumbled across one, eventually you can just find one your desired (as you stated above) weapon that you'd want in the shop. Or, just play multiplayer and hopefully you can find someone kind enough to give you their shotgun...

Good to know I am not missing out. I don't buy weapons often (I usually find more than enough) but I will buy orange weapons in the shop if their base level is well above what I usually find while scavenging.

I bought the orange semi-automatic shotgun for the bling and gave my original shotgun the rusty spine treatment. Completely unnecessary but it keeps me entertained. In reply to the OP's question, is the gun worth it? I think so. Its my favourite weapon for taking out volatiles.
