I encountered this yesterday. To avoid this easily you will need to delete any Data*x* file you've modified and verify integrity to re-download. When you've re-downloaded the fresh files, copy and paste a backup of the entire ".pak" file you're choosing to modify. Whenever the game shows its been modified and you need to revert, just copy and paste from your backup file. I work with mods when I don't play with my brother, but re-copy my backup file when I want to play with him again.

I don't understand any of it.

1. Make sure your game runs fine by, first, removing and verifying integrity of any modified files of the entire game. Loading the game without seeing "Modified Data" means your good. *If all else fails, re-download the entire game to make sure you have no modified data.

2. Find the "Data'x'.pak" file you are wanting to edit. i.e. Data0.pak.

3. Right Click "Data'x'.pak" and copy it.

4. Paste the copied file somewhere safe as this will be your stored backup in case you need to restore your original files. *Create a "Backup" Folder if you need to.*

5. Edit the original .pak file you just backed up located in the games directory DW folder (...\Steam\Steamapps\Dying Light\DW\) *NOT THE BACKUP FILE*

6. Whenever you need to restore the game WITHOUT having to verify integrity of the files again. Copy and paste your backup .pak file you saved back to your games directory DW folder (...\Steam\Steamapps\Dying Light\DW\)

Always keep a backup file somewhere to restore in the future to save time from verifying integrity every time. I always copy and paste my backup over my original to play without mods again with my brother.

Unfortunately, I didn't make a backup. I'm trying to find a fix.

~ Just delete the current data3.pak
~ run a file verification and it will be replaced.
~ copy and paste ( new desktop folder named data3.pak perhaps ).
~ Resume...

The instructions are very simple Snezzy. I don't see how to make them any clearer.

" shulzy175 very decently, all but wrote you a tutorial on this ( which I'm not going to do ). You may have to put some work into learning and comprehending the steps. Its quite simple once you do.

Apologies, but if you're having this hard of a time modifying a game, I wouldn't recommend doing it in the future for any game.

I can't do anything even though I didn't try. I might have to move to Far Cry 4 (or 5).

Snezzy right click Dying Light in steam and go down to Properties a new window will appear. go to Local Files Tab and then Browse Local Files. once in the game folder locate the DW folder and open it. there are 4 numbered Data.pak files. Data0.pak, Data1.pak, Data2.pak and Data3.pak.
delete those 4 files and the go back to steam and verify the game files. it will download new copies of those files and in theory shouldnt be modified in any way

I'm moving to Far Cry. This game is too broken for me.
