Random player joined and entire story was reset
I was playing with a friend of mine and some random dude joined us. The second he joined we we're both reset to 0% story wise. Is this some known trolling or just a random bug?

Never heard of it happening with a player joining.
There seem to be many complaints about story resets during co-op though.
Whose "server" were you playing on?

Weird. Have the host go to Advanced settings and restart from desired quest.

Don't know the server but I was the one hosting the game. When I tried to restart from last mission we had lost 10 levels or so...

I never heard this happening before. Well, it's good to have your save files backed up for similar scenarios.

Just had it happen again to my friend. The same dude just reset his game

Unfortunately this does happen on occasion.. I joined some random person to help them on a mission and yeah their story reset back to 0% .. I felt really bad.. On the other hand have joined someone's game only to be told the game notified them they have completed the game.. Luckily on this occasion they weren't too far into the story.. Weird things can happen I guess..

Yea, true. But I believe this might be trolling since we've had the same person doing it twice to us.

Yeah I agree if it's repeatable it's deliberate

I, as well, had something like this happen to my "The Following" Main Story Save. Instead, I joined a MP Server that was not VAC protected, had some fun, then dropped out. When I restarted my own SIngle Player experience, my Main Story progress for, The Following[where I was camping...], was reset to when I first arrived in The Countryside; inside the Sewers high on the cliff side. Seems things were fine with my Campaign status in Old Towne and The Slums...I had to replay the last 10% of the Main Story and ALL of the Side Quests of The Following.

I'm not entirely surprised though; this codeBase has multiple branches, many DLC's and whatnot... The Following seems to be quite the separate beast when crossing back and forth inside Servers.

have you sent a ticket to techlandsupport?
sebo Feb 5, 2018 @ 3:33pm
no idea why techland hasn't resolve this, since this has been an issue for some people, and the problem has existed back to when the game was released. if you search the forum, you'll find several people have also experienced this.

What I've noticed now, after logging on earlier, is that there was a 3rd .SAV file somewhere, connected to the Server side of things. Most times, Continue loads the correct .SAV, except when a MP Server is involved, Devs take note...then all bets are off. It loads some obscure, hidden .SAV file...I only have been able to find 2 .SAV files in my asset Tree; my BTZ.SAV and my COOP.SAV files. I'm assuming that these are the files referenced when logging on. I'm assuming the COOP.SAV file is my last saved game on log off, when you exit the game environment with QUIT.

When I logged on, I was presented with the 'Continue' Menu choice; doing so put me back some .SAV file when I was in a joined Server; not part of any Save I wanted. Selecting Play gave me the Campaign option, which was my last correct coop.SAV file. Selecting The Following gave me my correct .SAV file in that branch.

Once I entered the game environment and did some things, then Quit, was I able to be presented with the correct .SAV file with the 'Continue' Menu choice. So, for me, the take-a-way is to NOT choose the 'Continue' play choice after engaging in MP gameplay; instead, enter Play and then choose the correct .SAV point from either Campagin or The Following Menu choices.
