The little girl Clara in the closet.
I played the game to completion back in 2015, restarting it a lot, and recently I also started to play it again with two different saves.
I by chance on one of the saves went a slightly different route during the Airdrop quest, before triggering the night and actually finding the drops, and heard crying, and started to look for the source. It came from one of the houses on the route if you draw a straight line between the Stuffed Turtle Quarantine Zone and the Psycho Safe Zone.
(Picture of the map for a refresher.)
You had to secure the house, and you found a girl, Clara, in the closet, telling you about her father being sick and wanting you to go away.
This was the first time I ran into this event in all my different playthroughs.
I tried finding her on my other save where I had completed the Airdrop quest, but the Clara crying didn't trigger. Funnily enough later on when I was mucking about in the same area I heard the TV on, went there to find the closet open, which made me wonder if Clara was still alive in this other save where I hasn't secured the house and saved Clara from her father, since the TV was on, but the game didn't tell me.

I wonder how many other little cool events like this I've missed because they are time sensitive and can only be triggered during certain quests if you happen to be travelling by a certain neighbourhood, and won't be marked on your map like all other quests.
Anyone know if Clara's fate is clear in the game?

AFAIK, this is the only quest-dependent "unmarked" event that happens in the entire game.

There is a similar event that triggers a quest[guides.gamepressure.com] in the coastal part of the slums, but it is not linked to other quests, though.

Well it's still neat that we have one little less obvious event, fun discovering such things while exploring.
Yeah I know about that quest, also when I was googling for secret quests I was amused to notice that people sometime miss that in the Witch Queen quest you actually need to drink the concoctions each time to progress.

after the enhanced edition update i was never able to find her again, i belive she was a left over from that E3 gameplay trailer and they removed her in the update getting rid of old models

No she's still there, I ran into her last week or so, I think it's time sensitive and you need to be in the area before completing the Airdrop quest. I wonder if there are more limitations which is why you haven't found her? I was playing with a friend and we had some other quest active at the time, not the Airdrop quest.

You know what would be cool to have in the game? Quests starting by finding the notes in the game, along with talking to certain characters.

A lot of them refer to events that will or are about to happen

This.

I love how quest system works in Fallout/Elder Scrolls series:
- NPCs can start quests;
- Reading notes can start quests;
- Getting items can start quests;
- Killing an enemy can start quests;
- Events in the story can start quests;
- Quests can start quests;

But I do believe Dying Light is not about quests anyway. The format is more of a set of missions than quests.
