I had the same problem but I fixed it. This problem for me was caused by changing the resolution from fullscreen to a smaller resolution after launching it. I'm not sure if you also have been reducing the resolution, but here's my solution:

You have to fix the video.scr file of the game with a text editor(I used Sublime Text 3). First, click on your desktop and press Command+Shift+G. In the box that opens up, type "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Dying Light/DW/out/Settings/Video.scr" (no parentheses). Then open your text editor And drag the video.scr file into the window. This will allow you to edit the file. Using Sublime Text 3, it shows the row numbers, so go line 23 where you'll see Resolution (x, x). You need to change the two values to (1856, 1392). After changing that, press enter to create a new row directly below row 23 and type in Fullscreen(). Save the file and you should be able to open the game without having the black screen problem.

After the game loads, you can change the resolution again and play in whatever resolution you wish to play in. However, after you close the game without changing the resolution back to the default fullscreen setting, you will have to do the text editing thing all over again if you want to reopen the game.

Hi guys, got the exact same problem here but it still not working. How do you got those numbers (1856, 1392) ? Did you get them by some calcule from your own screen resolution ? Or those values should work for every screen resolution ?
Here are my configuration :
(2560 x 1440)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4095Mo
Mac OS version 10.12.3
Thanks for your help :)

Works fine with 1080, 1440p goes black screen. Just play with 1080p. Also press space bar after loading

i have an idea. I think this problem is about resulation. For example, if your screen is 2560*1440, but the icons look so small in 2560*1440, then system will help you resolve it to 2048*1152 or 1920*1080. Then the icons look porperly. But that means, if you set your resulation in game to a setting larger than 1920*1080(the resolved resulation), then the drawing will come to bugs.

So if you want to play it in 1440P, please set you resulation of system to the largerest one, no matter 1440P or a larger one.

About the controller, the dying light in mac uses the SDL lib. If you use a controller older than 2020, such as Xbox series X, the you will have issue in controller. The solutions are, you can open the steam input, then steam will help you translate the series X into 360 or other Xbos controller. Another method is, download the latest SDL lib, or use the SDL lib in other game and replace it in the proper position. The instruction can be find in celeste issue about controller. you can find the instruction and SDL lib in celeste communication. The second method may help you solve the issue about vibration.
