If you have original, you want to buy either Enhanced Edition or season pass, depending on your wallet size and which is most cheapest for you, both Enhanced Edition and season pass contain The Following and Bozak Horde which are the must have DLC.
If you have Enhanced Edition (Having Enhanced Edition means you already have The Following / Bozak Horde), you don't need season pass, and if you have season pass you don't need Enhanced Edition.
On my list of dlc, it show as purchasable season pass, but when I click on it it says it is installed already.
There are 4-5 other dlcs that aren't included and doesn't say I own. Are those not part of the season pass?
edit : Read the post hyperlinked above. I do have crash test dlc it seems with the enhanced edition though. I'll get the other dlc it seems. If they are worth it.
Enhanced Edition doesn't include season pass itself, but it includes every DLC that season pass does, therefore there's no need of season pass.
The vanity based DLC aren't included in either Enhanced Edition or season pass, these are:
Gun Psycho
Harran Ranger
Volatile Hunter
White Death
Vintage Gunslinger
These are bought separately.
I checked those dlcs out and it looks like mostly skins and a few weapons, to which I assume there are similar weapons in the game as well. Unless they have something very particular (OP) about them, I'll stick to the enhanced content and be happy :)
There's only two noteworthy weapons.
Marksman Rifle from Gun Psycho, with this blueprint you can modify your rifles, giving them cool skin, a red dot sight and increased accuracy while reducing fire rate. This isn't necessary at all, you can buy it anytime later if you'll really like it and enjoy rifles.
Ranger bow, this comes from Harran Ranger DLC and is considered best bow in the game purely out of its very slight damage boost from the other bows. It's basically same as Bozak bow from Bozak Horde DLC. Ranger bow is basically same as Bozak bow, both being superiour to the default bow you unlock in game after passing Survivor skill-tree rank 9, only upside of Ranger bow is that it reaches a very slightly bit more damage than Bozak bow, however you quite likely won't notice any difference in gameplay, so unless you're really, really want that slight damage increase, you have nothing to worry about.
I only own the original version and I was planning on getting the season pass since I was interested in the story DLC's (mainly The Following). I mean content wise it doesn't matter (original + season pass or enhanced edition seem to have the same content if I understood you correctly), but just out of curiosity. Will the steam library list it as the enhanced edition once you buy the season pass or will it still stay the "classic" version?
/EDIT:
Nvm. it seems that the library entry stays the same either way. I for some reason thought that they entry name changed to enhanced edition. It doesn't. It's Dying Light for every version of the game.
Enhanced Edition has two meanings.
1. Name of patch which added better graphics, Nightmare mode, Legend skill-tree and etc, this is free and everyone has it regardless of what kind of version they own.
2. Name of store page which simply adds extra DLC.
Whether you buy Enhanced Edition or not, Dying Light will always have same name in your store and as well as in Steam Library, there's no "classic" version of the game.
Sorry I'm not sure how to explain better, my English isn't that good. But you should get season pass and you'll be all good. Also to mention, season pass doesn't include Crash Test Skin Pack, which is another vanity based DLC and absolutely unnecessary.
