Issue with connecting to Online Games [Ubuntu/Linux]
I'm having issues connecting to online games for play as zombie. It disconnects be instantly on joining a game. I am running the latest Ubuntu desktop build (linux). I am also on my own DMZ so port forwarding is not an issue.

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? love the game so far.

Multiplayer has been broken for GNU/Linux players for more than a year and there is still no word about it from Techdland, despite there are hundreds of reports about this problem.

Nobody can play this game until Techland want to fix multiplayer and, for now, they don't care about it :(

When I played this last online, shortly after the following was released, it was still possible to "invite" steam friends for co-op, and it was possible for me to be invaded too. Like it was in the original release. Never could invade someone, however.

Does that still work like above, or is it totally broken?

UPDATE 20.04.2017 => They have fixed this completely now!

It's possible to be invaded (obviously not by a GNU/Linux user) but a think it's random, sometimes connect, sometimes doesn't

I never was able to invite nobody for co-op the game always rejects connections.
How did you "invite" friends to play?

Anyway, they didn't fix anything related to multiplayer yet (at least not intentionally) ¿^^

That's pretty unfortunate. Finished campagin - the game was awesome. Was hoping to invade worlds for some fun. Guess not though.

It is a year ago, but I think it was from the game menus (esc while game is running), an "invite" option, which opened a list of steam friends to choose from. Choosing someone who was running the game already would give him a prompt to join. (It worked the other direction too).
Or then it was from steam itself, "join friend's game".

Anyway, using the lobby thing (running games) did not work, but something which allowed to choose the target steam friend worked.

petri, would this be possible for The Hunter in zombie mode? or only for co-op humans?
petri.piira Dec 26, 2016 @ 12:25am
I was never able to invade as a hunter, because there was no way to specify a certain steam account name as the target. Co-op worked, when targeted to a steam friend, public co-op never worked.

But that is how it was a year ago, it is me asking here how it does work currently, if someone knows.

I tried from the lobby, Through game menu and using the steam friends list and nothing worked for me.
I don't know if at some point multiplayer worked, but since May 2015 I have been trying it and it has been impossible it was never work and still doesn't.

The two new versions of Dead Island are broken too, same issue, so probably all games from Techland has the same unresolved problem with multiplayer since long time ago.

It's ridiculous that they can't fix a major portion of the game for the linux port. I understand it's an issue with the network stack on the linux kernel most likley but there's no excuse for developers of the port to fail so much at a major part of the game.

Other games have managed linux multiplayer effectivley - there's no reason paid devs can't implemenent a fix.

The only reason: The just don't care ¿^^

I'ts more important for them to use the same broken code to do some "remakes" and make more money without effort.

Shiba87, infected.exe - send a friend request to me if you wish to try it out.

I just checked, and I have the easier co-op trophy from April 2015, so I can prove it worked at that point. Never did the harder one.

(And I played a lot of co-op after that in 2015 - but can't prove it - however, if it is some NAT / whatever network thing, my connection is still the same, so if it still works even for some settings, it should work with my connection.)

It's sad we are doing their job, but... we can try. And, who knows, maybe something magically works ¿^^

While a terrible pain arises from the deepest of your being and you wonder:
Why Techland? Why?

I submitted a ticket to techland. Others suffering from the same problem should do so too, I think... (because of the standard corporate attitude of "no tickets, no problem")
