I basically used shotgun on all the special mutated, always shoot in the head.
After that use arrows, fire and elec or just use other guns, shooting is the best way to deal with em
You need either Harran Ranger DLC, if you have this DLC, all elemetanl arrow blueprints will appear in your blueprints category.
If you have Bozak Horde DLC and not Harran Ranger DLC, you'll first need to have Bozak Horde finished under certain play time, 31 minutes if it's singleplayer, 28 if it's 2 player Co-Op and etc, more info in the Bozak Horde guide on my profile about this. Rewards / Achievements section.
Bozak Horde's explosive arrows blueprint is tied to the achievement Things That Go Ka-Boom.
There's small poster outside the room in Brecken's Tower which has vendor, fast travel to Old Town and storage, as well as bed.
If you still can't find it, tell me and I'll post screenshot. Although Bozak Horde will be probably very challenging for you right now, but if you still want to finish it for bow, you'll have to add and then contact me about it.
Personally, I favor the Bow and throwable weapons ( burning stars, explosive stars, etc.. He takes a massive amount I of damage, so you've just got to chip away. The only drawback to using guns and explosives are the Vitals who are attracted by the noise.
One time, positioned on the 1st floor roof surrounded by barbed wire ( excellent place to avoid his thrown *** attack ), I used a pistol to take his helmet off, then burning throwing stars to the face and finished him off with arrows to the head.
Another time I tried something different ~ throwing melee weapons takes his armor off pretty quickly, so...
I had collected a large surplus of weapons and mods so I prepared by crafting a whole bunch of decent blunt and bladed damage melee Weapons ( that I didn't mind losing ), packed up as many as I could carry and took a position in the workshop building.
Using firecrackers to distract him, I'd hop out the door and throw a blunt weapon or two at his armor and dodge back in when he turned back. I repeated this until he was exposed. Switched to bladed and continued ~ he came down very quickly with the armor off.
A third time ( and much bolder ), I got his armor off with thrown weapons and then went in with my favorite machete. Firecrackers - jump in - slash - dodge - rinse and repeat.
Used lots of explosive crafts/arrows to damage him, then I had to actually smack his helmet with a weapon to get it to come off as no amount of explosives, firearms or bolts/arrows would pop it off
After that, he goes down quick
