You cannot call the achievements unlocked by pirated version a 'legitimate', but that's just my opinion, you do whatever you want.
Make sure you're not in/playing any VAC enabled game when you use SAM just for safety.
I don't have the time and will to replay 40 hours of gameplay.
I know there are similiar methods that work for other games. Looks like i'll have to contact the devs.
I don't think they'll work. AFAIK you can't manipulate time with SAM or with any other means. You can try unlocking achievements one by one though.
Doubt developers will help you for 2 reasons. First it was pirated version that you unlocked achievements with, so by no means it counts as a legitimate for Steam since it has nothing to do with Steam. I think it's more of a Steam support thing than developers but this isn't certain.
Asking for developers or Steam support to unlock your achievements that you obtain by pirating their game.. sounds a bit silly, but good luck with that.
This is the behavior shown in most games that use the SteamWorks API to support achievements: it unlocks in the profile the moment it unlocks in the game, specially in multiplayer titles, but Dying Light's case might be different, I'm not sure if the games have some control over delayed achievements in the case of, e.g., offline play.
