Heavy weapons...
... Does anyone use them?

I mean they are just garbage aren't they?
Even just doing the psycho challenges, it's nonsense when you get the heavy axe and have to cut them in half. Not that it's hard to cut them in half exactly, but that you just get grapped while swinging the weapon. You can't time it to get a few of them, you either have to risk missing by swinging early, or get grabbed and/or hit.

Throughout my over 200 hours with the game I think I might have used heavy weapons for about 1 hour. And that 1 hour would be totally in the pit against the demolisher, just throwing rebar at it until it dies (and I die a lot there, on hard and nightmare difficulty). Maybe a couple of minutes doing this stupid psycho challenge.
I can't think of any other place I used heavy weapons at all.
I have only found 3 gold tier weapons, two of them were blade of order (exactly the same weapon twice in a row), and another was a heavy hammer or something. The hammer I just left in the box.
I don't need the cash from selling it, I most definitely would never use it or even waste any of my upgrades on it, so I might as well save the inventory space.

So I was wondering, does anybody use heavy weapons? If so, do they use them more effectively (or at least AS effectively) as the lighter weapons? If so, do they have any video footage, maybe to show me where I'm going wrong?

Just interested, it feels like a whole other tactical side to the game is missing with the heavy weapons being so bad, so maybe it's just me using them wrong.

If you need help with psycho challenge let me know, you have to time it well enough. You can charge attack from above then jump down and initiate it so they don't have time to bite you.

Two handed weapons don't earn that much like as one handed weapons from me in singleplayer/against zombies, but it's very useful in invasions.

You just need to time it right and be quick with your attack.
Look around you try not to get surround by walkers or check , be sure other walker are not too close.
And about the timing just swing it like a 1 meter from your target and walk forward by doing that.
I use a lot of heavy and miss only a few time just try to time it right and you'll be find man.

Know exactly what you mean....the use of two-handed blunt weapons need definetly some practise.
BUT, it's fun to use. Jump from above into a mob of zeds, fire up the ground pound of a stamping sledgehammer, well: I like that

For the challenge: yeah it's horrible. As said above - timing does matter a lot. You can cut in half 6,7,8 zeds with a good blow. Keep going. :ToolsOfDestruction:
But do any of you guys actually use heavy weapons rather than lighter weapons?
I'm just interested to know.

Usually with a game, if something is unbalanced like this then there are always some masochists who have to use it, maybe because they feel they need to be punished for things they did in a past life or something :)

Depends, as I said.

Whenever it comes to killing zombies whether asap or just for fun, I use one handed weapons 99% the time. Especially if it's harder difficulty, I'll perhaps use two handed weapon just for fun on Normal mode whenever I am there, but it's just too much slow and underpowered on harder difficulties, so it's a big no.

But if it's invasions, two handed weapons are great against hunters, you can see my artworks about it.

I think their use cases are so limited I rather spend the weapon slot for something else.

I mainly use it for fun but if it a serious mission i'll take a one handed

The secret to that psycho challenge is the whirlwind attack where you spin around. You just run into a crowd of them and do that spin, which is targeted so that it will cut them in half by default.

Heavy weapons are really slow and usually not enough extra damage to warrant using them on their own basic moveset, but the ground pound attack and the whirlwind are excellent AOE knockdown attacks that can manage crowds very well. It's handy in a fight to switch to a two hander when you need some AOE, pull out one of those moves, and then switch back to a one hander for pure DPS on smaller amounts of targets.

I certainly don't. Take no pleasure in using them. I have a few gold two handeds in my stash - don't know why. I guess some might have fun with heavies.

I used them early on against strong enemies and large groups (whirlwind attack and ground pound) but once I got guns and stronger light weapons I didn't want to waste a slot.

I like throwing a firecracker into a horde, jumping in and whirlwinding them while they gawk at it

during invasions i mostly use heavy weapons as it does a ton of damage to the night hunter..
