Finish the game on all difficulties... can take around 300-500 hours without rushing.
Finish the game on 100% completion, around 500-800 hours without rushing.
Finish fully developing your character by reaching maximum Legend rank? it varies, can take 250-600 hours without rush. I'm still Legend ~150 though, but that's because I'm intentionally trying to not rank up by committing suicide.
Finish the entire game? Umm... still counting..
I completely agree with this.
Or so, then ~100h.
Of course, if you rush you'll finish it quickly, common sense. Also, skipping Normal and Hard isn't a good idea.
90 hours is how you actually play the game right way. It's not a race, you shouldn't be trying to complete the game as quick as possible, but instead taking it slowly, exploring, doing all side missions and everything you can before you finish storyline, that's the best experience.
Rush, finish it in 10-20 hours and you ruin it for yourself. Definitely not something you want to do if you enjoy Dying Light and its gameplay.
If you want the best experience, start on Normal, finish the game, start NG+ on Hard, finish it, start NG+ on Nightmare, finish it. Then maybe work towards Legend skill-tree, get gold tier weapons and etc. After that The Following.
Yeah, rushing it in 10 hours would be nonsense and wasting the game.
Also why start on normal? I've only ever played nightmare and had no problems. I liked how nights were actually stressful because I had to pay attention to my surroundings due to the map not showing where volatiles are. Normal most likely has little challenge, so I don't see how that could be the best experience.
Normal is fine in the beginning, neither hard nor that easy. It's most balanced for beginners, it gets easy at around 50-60% story if one isn't rushing the game, at that point difficulty can be upgraded to Hard. But mainly because if you finish the game on Nightmare, there's nothing else difficult, so you destroy your own replay value. The hard mode on NG+ is most balanced and most fun mode to play as well for endgame.
Have you tried fighting evolved volatiles on Nightmare+? That's something I don't think you can find fun doing alone, but good luck anyway.
And another thing is that each difficulty has its own outfit rewards, Normal one may not be that great, but Hard is definitely worth getting.
On the other hand, all difficulties have their own mechanics and they're fun to play, shouldn't be skipped.
I'm currently playing The Following. Ridiculous amounts of volatiles in the countryside, btw. I like it because nights are scary again. It was too easy to evade volatiles in the Old Town with the grappling hook. The countryside is mostly open areas with few places to hide or hook onto. Old Town got a bit boring due to pursuits being too easy to evade, tbh.
