**** Your Papers!!!
It is like work LMAO. There is no learning curve it is just okay this is what you got to do now and there is no pausing. The only thing I wish it had was real country names and cities it would make me learn something at least.
I am going to put this game on my resume under jobs and my main task checking papers. :Deer:

Pausing and studying the documents would take away the challenge. There is a learning curve too, it starts easy - only allowing citizens - then gradually adds more challenges.

I agree that it's like work though..

That's the point.

Yes there is. It's just that learning the game requires actually reading the brief paragraphs of flavour text and keeping the rulebook on hand.

It's called the escape key. Try using it.

This game already tackles touchy subject matter as it is. We don't need the pretense of realism dropped any further by attatching it to real country names and generating genuine negative stereotypes.

They couldn't put real countries in this or the game would be banned. It would promote incorrect ideas of countries. Lets just say that if this game had real countries, Arstortzka would be a country that we'll call Country A and Kolechia would be Country K. Country K would immediately file a complaint against this game because in the game Kolechians commit several acts of terrorism in the game. This would promote the idea that Country K is filled with terrorists, or something like that. It would also blacken the image of Country A, because the game might make it look like Country A is a very harsh, cruel country. Other examples include the parts where you deny all UF residents due to a disease, the document forgery business in Obristan and the part where you deny residents from the ALTAN district due to suspicious actions.

Also I think that this game does have a bit of learning in it. It teaches you about the harsh life of immigration in unfortunate, strict countries. And the documents and procedures may also be quite realistic.

I forget where I heard this, but supposudley this is an allegory during WWII(?). Anyways, the whole rush of "Papers, Please" is trying to figure out whot o approve and who not to approve in as little time possible. The game would be a ridiculous level of easy if the game let you pause to examine documents; it would really kill the whole purpose of gameplay.

To give you an idea of what I mean, let's say that you COULD pause to study documents. That's fine and all, but let's think about all it would really take to make the game incredibly easy. Let's assume that every in-day game is 320 seconds long. Let's also assume the following: it takes 5 seconds for somebody to walk into the area and put their papers down, total, and 3 seconds for them to leave even if denied. Now, we pause the game every time papers are set down. For every person we complete, it takes 8 seconds, yes?

That's 40 people per day, if nothing happens such as an EZIC mission, terrorist attack, etc. and you don't get any citations. This gives us 200 dollars per day; without expenses. By the end of the day, we'll have 180 dollars worth of savings.

The gameplay is about haste and making mistakes as well as a nice story.
