I don't know how to use the Search scanner.

I cannot progress through the game without knowing how to use it please help.

I assume you're talking about Day 7, where there's a rule that says that entrants from Kolechia must be searched? If so, you need to go into inspection mode and highlight that rule in the rulebook with the Kolechian entrant's passport. Once you'll have interrogated the entrant, the "Search" button will appear.

For contraband and weapons, you need to highlight the entrant's weight (which is displayed below the counter, where there's the microphone, date and clock) with the weight on their passport. If their weight is higher than stated on the document, that is.
