Which real life country do you think Arstotzka mostly resembles?
I think the game is definitely set in Eastern Europe due to the names and it becoming a communist police-state, it will have been the USSR.
The best fit for the game I can see is you being a border guard in Belarus allowing people in from Ukraine.

This is because looking at the map. Arstotzka is bordered by Kolechia (Ukraine) with Antegria and Republia resembling the real life Latvia and Estonia and the United Federation being the real Russian Federation. Of course the map has been flipped in-game to where Russia is on the other side.

I'd say, maybe Yugoslavia, PRL or possibly Czechslovakia. Possibly even East Germany (given that people were X-Rayed without them noticing that it was an X-Ray when you search them. It was known practice at the Marienborn Border Crossing, though usually on the way out.)

The country is definetly supposed to be that of a Generic East Bloc state.

Yeah, the whole Communist-era with the clothing styles, miserable people and slavic names really gives off that USSR vibe.

Although some things they do like the restrictions on foreigners or detaining people for minor things really start to give off that Nazi-Germany-esq vibe lol. You kinda start treating people like how the Nazis treated Jews sometimes throughout the game. (it's weird i know, but it gives off this kind of impression to me :D)

East Germany, I mean after all we are "East Grestin" with a wall that seperates us from "West Grestin"

It's a caricature of the GDR, most definitely

I Always thought it was the GDR personally

It's a mixture really. Eastern European names, totalitarian government (any communist country), city split by a wall (Berlin), post-war with terrorist attacks (Yugoslavia), KGB-like secret police (Soviet Union, GDR).

Obviously you don't know sh*t about how the Nazis treated Jewish people, because if you would you wouldn't talki such bullsh*t. You cannot (thank God!) send people to death camps to be gassed to death in this game. So just shut up please.

Um ... what?.

Why do people always throw a ♥♥♥♥♥-fit when the term "Nazis" is brought up?. I never said any of that ♥♥♥♥ you moron so don't you dare assume that i am. I know ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-well how the Nazis treated the Jewish people, lower than the dirt they walked on would be the answer to that. They thought Jewish people as well as Slavs were subhuman, inferior to normal human beings. (i know a lot of history on the Second World War too. Mostly Axis-wise.)

I said some of the things they do in Arstotska RESEMBLED Nazi Germany. Not that they were exactly the same genius. The Nazis adopted some of the same tactics before and during the Second World War, like their stance on foreigners for example.

If you had relatives in the 2nd World War i legitamitely sympathize with you for that and respect your relatives too for trying to defend them but if it's just plain Allied propaganda which was put in place during and after the 2nd World War that you're believing in then you're a blind fool. Some Allied propaganda nowadays is worse than the bloody Soviets were for Christ sakes.

But please elaborate if you can.

Little-known fact: The Nazis weren't all white devils hell-bent on eradicating the human race and every value they stood for like most people think nowadays either, they actually did some good during their time in the world. Ever drink Fanta?, you can thank the Nazis for that. Every bottle of Fanta you drink is you taking a sip on that Nazi engineering. ;)

Was just listening to a podcast about personal identification using biometrics instead of paperwork, and it got me thinking about this game even more. I like how this game sets itself in a fictious soviet country, so the player can think about the issues of power and identification, without taking it personally.
The podcast is "BBC World Service: Crowd Science: Could our faces replace passports as ID?" in case you wanted to give it a listen while you were checking passports.
