Any Other Spectral Throw Lovers?
During the closed and open beta's I used to run with a 40+ Spork Witch on Cruel - However, it was somewhat unreliable and horrendous for single target, often relying on much less supported skills for single-kills, but was a fancy way of smashing my way through hordes.

...Now, however, I decided to try a Scion during the Steam release and, of course, the first gem dropped is Spectral Throw... Pretty standard spell by itself, nothing amazing...

Until I got access to "Greater Multiple Projectile", "Lesser Multiple Projectile", "Projectile Speed" support gems (Not including any and all available Elemental Damage support gems - Also works with lifesteal, making it a potential sustain BEAST).

So, even though I'm now level 35'ish with one offensive button, I've AoE'd my way right past Piety from A1 to A3 and on my way to Dominus...

Am I the only one playing this way? I doubt it, it seems a pretty common / predictable way to go.

You are not the only one
I love Spectral Throw
Everything up to Act 2 Cruel was easy with some challanges on rares/bosses

Currently using Spectral Throw with Lesser Multiple Projectile and Life per Hit
Cannot decide if I should go with GMP >.<

I'm building my Scion around this guide:
http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/547971
It was the first thing i found when started, so I'm using it.

My greatest problems right now are single target and mana; but I'm also not a great POE player, never got past first 2-3 quests in Act 2 Cruel before release.
I'm also using spectral throw, Greater multiple projectiles and life on hit and my HP literally never drop, even on bosses or when I pull half the map at the same time. They definitely might want to do something about it...
The highest level character I've got in Domination right now is a Scion that uses Spectral Throw.
I'm only using added fire and lesser multiple projectiles so far though, haven't really gotten any other supports which fit yet, and neither do i have the slots for it yet either.

Projectile weakness, + 15% knockback on hit is awesome. Can't wait till i get knockback on crit + some more crit nodes.
Aye I've not scratched the surface of combinations properly yet, afterall I've only just hit 40 - And multi-slot gear / support gems haven't exactly been easy to find just yet.

Combo's I've tried so far:

LProjectiles + GProjectiles + FProjectiles = 7 Weapons at once that can hit enemies off-screen. The damage is a lot lower and the mana-cost higher, but it's a fun way to soften up an entire room from off-screen. If you have a "Life On Hit" weapon using this, you're pretty much guaranteed infinite sustain as you're getting that value x7 assuming they all hit something - Even if only half of them hit, that's pretty decent health return. If there's a gem for lifesteal later, then you may never need potions again :D

LProjectiles + FProjectiles + (Insert Element Here) = Good way of spreading the on-hit love - Especially nice with cold damage for AoE slowing although it's not required if you already have elemental damage weapons. Can swap between lesser or greater based on preference really but for general purposes I like lesser as it's more reliable at close range and the damage is't over-reduced + FProjectiles gives back about 15% of the lost damage at about level 6'ish and makes the range much bigger, so they don't 'spread out' so quickly at closer range because of the speed difference.

I've still not gathered enough gems to experiment a whole lot but I did manage to grab a decent DPS weapon with 3 linked greens linked to a red (Which I have nothing to use in it alongside SThrow just yet) but I'm sure something will crop up after a while.

I'm not surprised SThrowing isn't an original attack method... Wanted to see if Ethereal Knives with the same formula's could have been good (they work with 'Chain' while SThrow does not) but sadly, seeing as they are set-damage rather than weapon based, you'd not gain a whole lot by doing it.
I'm loving it. I've just entered act 2 on cruel and have been able to solo everything so far without much trouble. I've been using LMP and added fire damage most of the way through.
Aye LMP seems more stable - I've recently found Warlords Mark gem and been using that with double-fists for disgusting life-steal - Although unfortunately I have to use single spectral throw due to bad gem-combo's on the new gear... However, it did allow me to support SThrow with (Blue) Item Rarity - Can't wait to tie 30+% Item Rarity onto a triple-spectral throw with major lifesteal - Farming heaven ;)

Currently heading to the last 2 segments of A1 Cruel so far with my non-optimal version, so when I get proper gear with proper slots that allow me to use it's full potential I'm surely going to have lots of fun ;)
Bah, I seem to have completely ruined the build over time and ended up being very sub-par in Cruel. Rather than try to fix the build I ended up deleting the character, offering the unique gear I found along the way to a Hunter I made instead.

While I have every confidence a SThrow build can be strong when done right, I failed, so decided to use what I learned and focus on projectiles again, just on a Hunter/Bows as opposed to Throws.

Oh well - Can't say it wasn't a lot of fun to try.
Kripp made that build extremely popular lately, too.
I started a scion after 4 month of non playing and i am using sprecral throw with dualwielding. i am lvl 32 with 121 dps on sprecral throw. i skilled lots of +projectil dmg.
i dont know if str or dex is better.
I used but it's playstyle was boring to me. Albeit fun in the beginning in the end it got a snoozefest and was not fun anymore playing for me. I ran a 2h spectral throwing axe with leap slam. He died at level 52 because my dog disagreed with me playing by reaching for my lap for attention so i could not acces my flasks. The char was pretty strong.

Now running a warrior mage with leap slam, more suited to my playstyle, more fun for me and higher survavibility aswell.

Glad others are having fun finding their niche in PoE.

As said earlier, decided if I wanted to go with projectiles, I'd go the traditional way - Started a Ranger from scratch and just killed Piety on Cruel on day two of her creation, so it must be going well.

My Scion would have been ok if I hadn't messed up and gone for an aura/mana/ES passive dump, sacrificed way too much damage, even though spectral throw with duel-weild fist-blades is always fun due to ridiculous amounts of lifesteal. My Ranger had 600 DPS when my Scion (at same level) had barely 200 DPS (Lev 45) so that's how bad I messed up my Scion, so it was worth starting over.

Ranger is now level 53-54 and on her way to Dominus in Cruel - 1300 DPS and rising, just need to find a few more decent items, pump up her resistances and life a little, then it's smooth sailing so long as I maintain enough lifesteal. Similar to the old Scion, she focuses on Split Arrow with Chain and other support for damage (AoE) while her Poison Arrow + DPS Support is for single targets - Works out well though still a little squishy when the meat hits the grinder.

Spectral throw is prolly the most played spec right now. And why wouldnt it? It's broken.
I leveled up a scion with ST, too, though I went with a more niche build (2H maces, tank-y, with resist nodes to make it gear-flexible). It's stronger than anything else I have played, and I won't be crying when it gets toned down, but I like the playstyle. It is like Blessed Hammers in D2, minus everything that made BH inconvenient and annoying. .)
Put Life Gain On Hit and Leech Life on too and it gets even better.
