As a Ranger, what skill gems should I be using?
I feel like I'm not doing very good DPS, I just started act II

Any tips on what gems to use?

When I was playing the best overall Bow Range build tend to be lighting Arrow + Lesser Multiple Projectile with Static Shock. The best DPS was Quill Rain + Explosive Arrow which can give you over 300k of DPS with the right build. However that build is very narrow and major limitation.

Really anything. On of the great things about this game that pretty much everything is somewhat viable regardless of the class.

Recommending skill gems without knowing anything about your passive skill build however is pretty pointless.

i just played act 2 with a ranger today and i actually tried most Bow-Arrow-skills i had at the time. Everyone was viable. But lightning and ice were most fun... especially after i got this Lesser Multiple Projectile. Now i have piercing arrows as well and its even more fun.
you sould focus on the green gems, and make sure to use the support gems too! level them up nice and smooth, I did ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of DPS in act II , mosty 4 shot from distance, I used split arrow alot due the AOE effect.

by myself i i'm already in act 3, i have used same skills from the start mostly. i got support gem what grands lighting damage to myself and all party members near by, with that i have mostly used that one first of those skill what gives you multiple projectiles. but i have used double wield swords + skill what makes hologram copy from your weapons and throws it.

I did well with poison arrow + split shot in the early acts

Most of my rangers (yes, I've made quite a few) go for one-handed melee skills - Viper Strike, Dual Strike/Double Strike, Cleave/Reave, Whirling Blades - but obviously a bow user is going to want the bow gems.
If you're dissatisfied with your damage output, though, the solution is to find a better weapon, not (necessarily) to pick a different skill, using orbs to make one if need be - this I also do fairly regularly, and I'm sure the traders here would be aghast at the amount of "currency" I've "wasted" on gear that I'm merely going to level with.

I also use an animated guardian + minion life to soak up melee damages from mobs while using the bow skills mentioned above. Oh and I have one of those life potion that heal minions too which helps a lot to keep my tank alive.
