is there a way to downgrade a gem?

and why would you ever need todowngrade a gem?

- manacost too high
- required attributes not met anymore (equipment with +attribute removed for something else etc)
- misclicked the upgrade on a cast when damage taken
- using a quality gem you no longer use on a low-level char
...

so many reasons.

a single level for one orb of scouring, but you can do it multiple times if needed ;)

Well, you may have used a stack or it was level 2,

decrease level of skill gem by 1 : skill gem ×1 + 1× Orb of Scouring

And I've used it quite a few times working as described there and by me

hmmm yeah im sure it was just one orb as i had only 1 orb...
the gem was used by my level 48 duelist so it was quiet advanced,
and now im using it with my level 34 tampler who dont have dex at all, which means
that there is just no way for me to use high level spectral throw gem

If the gem you want to delevel is a quality 20 then it would not be worth it to just buy a new level 1 gem from a vendor cause it most likely would be quality 0.

The recipes for reducing levels are all depending on the circumstances.
