You actually got to know what build you want to play and thats what determines the best class for you.
Duelist and ranger have relatively beginner-friendly starting positions, but as others have said, it doesn't matter. You should try and make or find a build that appeals to you. By build, I mean playstyle-related aspect, e.g. whether you want to use a bow, or a sword/shield, or dual claws, or if you want to be a witch with minions, or one that throws fireballs, etc. If you tell us what you want to play, you might get some build suggestions. :)
templar and duelist is good
ranger is for people who are alright at the game
shadow and witch is one of hardest classes.
I would suggest that you google Lightening arrow ranger (easy to gear) or Infernal Blow Marauder/ Duelist (basically a build where you wear heavy armor, a shield, high life and life regen and then try to get in the middle of mob groups to blow them up with the chain reactions of infernal blow, hella fun).
This is personally my favorite youtuber when it comes to POE and this is his suggestion at a beginner build.
the reason why i said it like this is due to survivability, the early game shadow and witch suffers greatly from lack of life nodes around their passive areas.
For example, playing through normal and early cruel, a fireball witch and a arc/lightning trap witch was super smooth. When I leveled my summoner witch, normal mode was a total nightmare and she only started to get good in the 40s.
With the shadow, I played several different ones through normal and into cruel. A bow-using build was fine until act3 where it started to drag, a freezing pulse build was slow in the first part and then sped up noticeably. And my current project is a dual claw using shadow with massive life leech (life build with evasion), which of all my characters had the easiest time leveling to about 50 (not higher with him yet). The only other of my characters that came close is a 2H mace spectral throw scion.
All of this is mostly untwinked, none of the speed leveling uniques that people use. I would, if I had them. :)
