No, that's bull. the only way that would make sense is with a first-party game from Valve. Any 3rd party company that is selling their game on steam can ask me to make whatever account they want.
Anyways, the game automatically logs you in through steam so it doesn't matter.
This is not needed just look at GFWL that is now gone and removed from those games!
(only Xbox still use it)
playing from steam alone should be enough still belive that.
Since there is no cash shop option you could use with your steam account a PoE account is simply needed in order to purchase microtransactions at some point.
a lot of thrid party titles require registering at that third party website.
ill say this though, there is a service called mask me. its a firefox browser plug in and smartphone app from the donottrackme folks. it will give you a randomised new email and password for every service you sign up to, allowing you sign up to all the third party sites you want without compromising your actual email address. this is what i do and ti works very well. if signing up at ggg is something that annoys you that might be an idea.
