Getting Blacksmith whetstones and Armourers scraps question

I am looking at the wiki and I am trying to get armourers scrap and blacksmith whetstone. If I read it correctly I need to trade non magic weapns and armor to geurst but he only gives me scrolls and scraps of scrolls. What am I doing wrong?

You'll need either
- 40% quality total (sum) of a single type (weapon/armor/potions/gems/map) OR
- one 20% quality item of the category*
to get the scraps and co

* see ThanatosXs Post: White or unidentified only, as the other recipes have a higher priority

It also has to be unidentidied for the 20% recipe too work.

Does it have to say +#% quality on the item in the description for it to count? I have not seen hardly any of these things.

Honestly, if you don't shy away from making trips back to town to sell tons of crap in the beginning—even blues—you'll soon have more of those stones and scraps than you can use.

If you're having trouble finding superior items (+#% quality) just check vendors every time you're in town, they're bound to have a few.

Well, I ran across this nice bow after using a few of those whetstones on another. I was trying to figure stuff out and had to burn through a couple. As Le Carajou recommended I am quite the crap hauler in the beginning but I was trying to figure out how to pick and choose the loot drops to get the currency I needed. I had been reading the vendor recipe list on the wiki but I have trouble getting the results I need. The bow I have right now is really good, I just wanted to up the quality and set it as rare. (To be honest, I am not sure what making it rare will do or if there will be any additional buffs, just thought I would try it.)

Really just play the game and don't bother with vendor recipes at least not for whetstones and scraps.
You'll get SO many of those by simply playing the game actually way more than you need. And just btw. it's barely worth using them on low lvl gear wich you won't be using for a long time anyways.
