Path of Exile vs Diablo 3
Not taking into account that one is free and one costs money (which I know is a big factor, but not what im curious about), would people say that PoE is better than Diablo 3? Which has better gameplay, what are the progression systems like etc...? Its just that if PoE turns out to be as good or better than Diablo 3, why pay money? I know that a lot is opinion based, but quite often there are things most people agree on that will make one better than the other. Thanks in advance for the help

POE and D3 are both nice action games in the same genre...

for POE, you need to study that game on the internet to get a clue how to play...
at least to save hundreds of hours on useless builds...
or to make less crafting mistakes.
D3 isnt nice ava, it was terrible. the devs killed it.

Path of Exile > Diablo III anyday. Like many, I had high hopes for Diablo 3, from previously playing the first 2. I pre-ordered it. Pre-installed it. Regretted it.

Blizzard didn't lie though. I should have known better when the description said, "it is up to a new generation of heroes to face the forces of evil threatening the world of Sanctuary".

I finished D3 on Inferno and quit immediately, farming is no fun, "drops" are a joke and D2 is just more fun and complex.

While I like the gameplay of PoE mostly it feels much slower than D2/3 and the fighting is too bland.

Most annoying though are the bluescreens that come with PoE. Everyone that has a Creative soundcard gets a portcls.sys bluescreen after some time which makes playing the game nearly impossible. They havent really cared enough to fix this issue even though there are enough threads in their forums about it. Therefore I have to vote for Diablo 3 in this battle even though its a crappy game as well.
+1

both games terrible

I prefer D3 . I'm not a fan of not getting at least 1 respec when you get a high level . You just end up copying someone else's build when new as you got no idea what you doing.

Dont speak for all of us. Just because YOU choose to copy someone else when faced with a tough game doesnt mean that all of us do. I like to experiment with different builds and when I finally find something that works well, the feeling of accomplishment keeps me coming back to PoE. D3 every single character of one class is almost identical.

D3 is an ARPG for the casual gamer with little emphasis on skills. A good game for the time poor and those that don't want to worry about making wrong choices. However it is a bit easy for experienced players.
PoE is a significantly harder ARPG for the gamer with more time to play. Personally I would play more PoE if there were more waypoints. The ziggurat section in act 2 is painfully long between waypoints.
On a side note, I think Torchlight 2 has better mechanics than both but the overly cartoon graphics puts me off sinking too many hours into it.

I've greatly prefered PoE more than Diablo 3, but I too have high hopes for the new content in March and can't wait to give that game another try. I've also really enjoyed The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. Unlike both PoE and D3, it has depth to it. And even though I loved Torchlight, I just couldn't get into Torchlight 2 for some reason, even though it's been my fiance's favorite ARPG.

Well everything about PoE is better than D3 except for the story. Even the world of Wraeclast is better than Tristram. Yet there really isn't a story. Gameplay is similar but PoE's progression is sooo vast. I HIGHLY recomend this title. I made it my personal game of the year for 2013. Gamespot made PoE their PC GOTY. It has high merit. It is free, so try it out. See if you like it.

You don't have to "study" PoE. You just need to be able to read and decide on what you wonna be like. Cause everything in this games besides resistances stacks prozentually, meaning it gets far better with every node spended and if you spread those between entirely different things you are screwed. That's all to know about it.

I've played every Diablo game and some of PoE.

I'd say both have their places. Here is a general list of which is better:

Price: PoE (its free) but if you play enough/like Diablo 3 then its worth it..the price went low so maybe its worth it now.

Graphics: Diablo 3. Hands down.

Regions: Diablo 3 is region locked. PoE uses logging portals which I guess should reduce lag or something?

Lag: Diablo3 has 0 lag if you play off the correct region that you are in. I guess you can factor in internet too..I play on EU sometimes and get minor lag. With PoE you jsut use a region gateway..but still get lag either way. Maybe its jsut the servers they run.

Gameplay: Atm both are about the same. PoE have a very unique passive skill system though so you might wanna look into that.

Story: Haven't finished PoE..but Diablo 3 just continues the Diablo storyline
