Can you play that as single player game?
Because I don't play multiplayer. Well extremely rarely. I might try it at one point but I'd rather ease into it after playing it single player first, if at all.

Just ignore the people in town. Once you leave a settlement, you are in your own instanced version of the world, just you or you and your party members.

Hmm, okay, can you disable the global chat or mute people or something like that? I don't deal well with flamers. I mean it's not the worst but it prevents me from relaxing and that's why I play videogames in the first place. Very few games that are worth it for me to deal with that stuff.

Edit: Okay, that works, too. I give it a shot then.

Simply uncheck global chat in your chat window. Thats what most players do anyways since it takes a horribly big part of the screen.
Group play is actually a lot of fun in this game but only with people you personally know "random pubs" like in other mmo's basically don't exist and the game is enjoyable as a solo experience too.

You might find yourself in need to trade at some point of the game though but i guess thats a reasonable amount of player interaction ;)

I usually play hack and slash games solo until I beat the game. Almost done with normal difficulty without partying once.

I like to enjoy the story at my own pace before joining anyone else.

I've played mostly solo, just because I prefer pacing myself. It's been great. And yes, first thing you should do is disable global and trade chat.

Okay, thanks, guys! I feel more confident about it now. Although I gotta say that my first impressions are a bit weaker than with Torchlight 2. I don't like the character models and animations that much and the action is a bit slower. But I heard that it needs some time to catch on so I'll keep playing and see how it goes.

I play solo, too.
Seeing others at the town just adds flavor.
And I've already managed to tune out the chat window to where I hardly notice it's there.

Yes, you can play Single Player Solo all the way through Normal and the credits.

Once you finish Normal you can continue by replaying the game in Cruel and continue to build up your same character and even go all the way through Cruel Solo. My intentions at this point are not to continue past Normal, not to do any groups, not to trade or buy anything beyond what you might get or need from a vendor.

Path of Exile (PoE) is very different. It is different and harder then Torchlight by far and same with Diablo. PoE is not intuitive. _Don't_ be intimidated by the really expansive Passive Skill Tree.

I highly recommend using an easy character build like the Ranger and using something like ZiggyD's Survival Guide and his Passive Skill Tree path--what I'm using and I'm into Act 3 now...

There is plenty of strategy figuring out what to do but there is also lots of help and most suprisingly PoE has turned out to be a lot of fun. Now, if I can just finish up Act 3 Normal.

If you get hooked on the game then you've got something here you might play over and over again with other character builds and other gamers--not me. I've heard that Grinding Gear Games (GGG) is working on an Act 4 even. And trading for items needed is a really big deal too.

Luckily I started out with a ranger and after getting past the initial unspectecular half an hour or so it's getting pretty amazing! Didn't expect such a well polished single player experience from a F2P game. Pretty good!

Yes sure

pure solo ?

i party up for some bosses (only the boss or the whole bosslevel) to avoid annoyance
i play casual and barely change my build (but i do some hours research)
i don't min-max gear or buy it or craft it or modify it ; i just wear what i find

if i can play this way in 'normal' and 'cruel' , only dying a few times , i would say POE is solo-able
