Good builds for co op partners?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a pair of classes/builds that would complement eachother?

I'm looking to play through the entire campaign with my dad before interacting with other people. I'm hoping to find two builds that complement each others stregnths/fill each others gaps and don't fight over the same loot.

Should I be looking for one AOE crowd control and one DOT boss killer? Or one physical one elemental, or the same to combine buffs? We both got to lvl 15 together so have some experience but were fighting over the same weapons so decided to start fresh.

I do! He was PC gaming before I was born. Though that is another thing to factor into my decision. We have somewhat different levels of player skill these days. He had difficulty playing a ranged character in Torchlight because he would often misclick and holding ctrl would get confusing. It would be great if one of the builds was easy to play.

well as far as complexity goes, the problem might not be with the gameplay itself but with the passive-skillboard and especially the skill- and supportgems. There is quite alot of planning.

As far as build-combos go, i´d say that you can do whatever you want to. If its both your first char, you might try to share equipment so use different kinds of weapons.
The easiest char i´ve played myself was a spectral-throw duellist about a year and a half ago.
I used 2h-weapons and went pretty much with a melee-passive setup (life, life, iron reflexes, more life). For most of the game i even used double-strike for single-target-dps. Wasn`t the best build I ever played but the campaign was a cakewalk at the time. Not sure if its still as easy but since the game is easier overall, i guess its still viable.

Ah, yes and i really hate playing coop with summoners...

There are builds that complement each other, such as a minion based build that uses auras to boost the DPS of minions, these auras will also apply to nearby allies, so a minion based build with an "attack" damage char as the second person, attack damage being physical.

Another piece of advice is that you should avoid using 2 build that require the same type of weapon, e.g avoud playing as 2 bow based rangers.

The minion build that i reccomend is a witch summon raging spirits summoner, and my favrioute melee build is Etup's static strike marauder.

I have close to 2k hrs in Path of exile now, but i can assure you that nobody really worries about their build complementing others, but one characters auras do benefit others, so you should/could avoid using the same aura on both your and your Dad's characters, but even if you do use the same auras, it doesn't really matter.

Last thing that i'll say is that if you need any more advice/help, send me a message in game, here on the steam forum, or at pathofexile.com and i'll try to help.

Kinda like others said. Some combos worth considering are:

1) Different auras obviously
2) Conduit to share power/endurance/frenzy charges
3) one going total support build like curses and culling strike/mf while other goes full dmg
4) Elemental equilibrium for one (support) toon and spam something like ice nova and other toon with another type of elemental damage. But things may die mostly too fast to really use it. Never really tried EE personally so not sure how good/bad it is. Obviously useless if you are already oneshotting everything
5) Just both go full DPS/whatever you like and it will work anyways.

I'd like to thank everyone for their advice, we've decided not to worry and started our characters and have been having a great time.

We saw how important passives were and realized it would be better if we planned them out ahead of time so we are using this great beginer guide for boy rangers

I started playing templar to avoid using the same gear and gems and now my problem is finding a build that works well together. I know there are limited ways this is possible but I'd like to take advantage of most enemies having "Assassin's Mark"

I was thinking of a crit strike build but not sure what to do.
