what is the best way to farm alterations currently?

I'm in need of fusing and I can just vendor alts for them Could someone tell me a good farming method or add me if you dont want to tell everyone =].

Alt shards are usually given for identified magic or rare items. Sometimes you get something else, depending on the mods of the item you vendor (anything with mf will give alch shards too).

Get a TON of Wisdom scrolls, go clear an area and pick up ALL blues, sell to vendor after identifying. This can be done in any difficulty, but do it in a 60+ zone so you can do the chaos orb recipe components, and I think you get more alt shards from higher level items.

Two masters (in your hideout) help for fusings - Elreon sells 20 Jewellers orbs CHEAPER than the A3 merchant, which are restocked after every mission you do for him. Vorici sells Fusings CHEAPER than the A3 merchant (costs 64 Jewellers for 20 fusings).

for items with mf they have to be above a certain % otherwise it gives alteration shards just like most other prefixes or suffixes.

I mean what method? I see people using level 1's to get more drops I was wondering What I have to do to get more alts

Well, what level are you? A basic method would be to find an area suitable for your level to run repeatedly and quickly, like running maps or catacombs when lvl 70ish.

Any area will work really, just go through the place killing everything and picking up items to sell, then heading to town/hideout to sell everything and repeat the process over again. Having high item quantity and item quantity helps also.

Also note that if you're too high of level for the area you're running, you get penalized on drop rates for currency, but not items, exact mechanics listed on here. (Yes, it's a minor detail, but if you're farming currency, every bit helps.) http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Drop_Rate
