As for builds, could look at 3.25 leaguestarter from guys like zizaran, pohx,
the maxroll.gg site etc.
And, usual advise to join the poe discord if you haven´t already and use the help channels there, steamthreads attract too many trolls
"that show off why poe 1 is so great"..
what makes poe 1 so great, is the body of game systems/mechanics that have been introduced and mashed into the main game over it's history of leagues and development. the concept of "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" does not apply here.. poe 1 is wide as an ocean deep as an ocean.. or for some, an abyss. this is the first obstacle a new poe player has to come to terms with. there are alot of systems to learn and literal meanings to understand.
the second challenge is poe 1's pacing and game speed. all of which are much faster and more hectic than anything poe 2 has to offer. however, you don't have to worry about bs mob pushing. nor is movement speed or movement skill options limited, and mob density is better, almost to a point of overwhelming to a "new" player. all of these nuances, while challenging at first, will become game value, once you put more equity into your learning experience.
at first you will get hammered, one shot, bent over, called names and laughed at by every boss and rare mob in the game. later.. you will full screen obliterate and one shot those same pixel frustrations, with an evil maniacal laugh. with the knowledge you have learned, from investing your time wisely, ultimately you will dominate... the one thing the "vision" of poe 2 .. is trying to control and not mirror in its new game systems. jonathan, is doing his very best to make sure poe 2 slows down these systems.. but at the cost of the community and game that gave ggg that opportunity. poe 1 is a very different game than poe 2. but the loyalty from its community and support remains the same. that is why so many people are upset.
understanding "build guides":
realize.. that 90% of the build guides you research, are all coming from a maxed twink perspective. the highest damage, the strongest defenses, the quickest clear speeds and usually most expensive and difficult to acquire items. stepping into this world, as a new player.. is next level rabbit hole. and.. can be frustrating. not many build guides are invented around the new player using "yelllow gear'. so please understand, that you will need to be a little flexible to failure, even with the best build guides out there.. those guides are usually on a level where basic understanding of games systems like defense layers, damage scaling, "you kill" "on kill" ect are on a basic level understood by the player. you have alot of material in front of you. try to find guides that are "new player" "crap gear", less than 100 chaos orb investment.. ect.
the BEST thing you can do.. is to slow it all down. have it all chopped up into little, bite sized pieces and learn these mechanics in a controlled environment.. starting with builds that slow the game down, or put something in the path of the one shots, mob speed/density and give you time to actually see boss/mob mechanics and trigger what to look for or what to defend yourself against and why.
i recommend: (long post i know, not sorry)
totem builds .. using the templar/hierophant ascendancy. three of which i specifically recommend, for built in screen clear or built in defense and learning the basics of shock, freeze, ignite, totem mechanics, elemental scaling, totem scaling, placement speeds, on and on. a good place to start.
1. arc totem (lightning, crit, projectile, chaining all mechanics to learn here)
2. freezing pulse totem (cold, freezing, projectile speed, pierce to learn)
3. holy flame totem (fire, ignite, cast speed, basic learner, old faithful)
totems to an experienced player are considered rather boring and limited to top tier mid game.. yellow maps, non uber bossing, ect. you may even get some replies in here on how this might be considered "bad" advice. there is no better game mechanic to allow you to observe and learn.. without frantic "oh ♥♥♥♥" moments.. than totems.
also recommended:
minion builds. more specifically..
1. "zoomancer" builds (minion, pathing, minion priority, minion scaling what you learn)
2. SRS builds. (same as above, but more of a spell caster feel relying heavily on player positioning)
minions are a great opportunity to slow the game down.. they have built in defense, with attracting monster hits, adding to player defense. and give you friends on the battlefield that can easily get you to mid game yellow tier maps and in most cases all content in the game. at your speed and learning digestion. again.. just like totems, not a particular goto for the more experienced players, and can also be considered "boring".. but, some of the best builds in poe history and world firsts were because of minion builds. who knows.. you might become a fan of totems or minions, and be the next level master of said mechanics. either way .. what these two skill types offer.. is a paved better understanding to other builds and mechanics at more volatile levels of play.
lastly .. i can recommend pohx's righteous fire build. if either totem or minion sounds like something you don't want to do. or if you want to have a more direct approach to your build. pohx has been around since alpha.. is a well known and respected part of poe's community (both 1 and 2) and has his own site to help you better understand the skill from a completely newb perspective. you can start that journey here.

look, i know.. if you made it this far.. thank you. it's alot. but your time should be and needs to be respected. its important to understand better what you're asking, and what you're getting yourself into. keep in mind.. poe 2 hopefully will be just as dynamic and well respected. i hope this wall of text helps with that.
all the best.
The best start is fire golems with the witch elementalist; then asking for help to get them working in maps.

cheers.
But the build I started after a few others (took 5 hours just to get this laptop to reach 30fps so combat stutters a little), is a witch/necromancer (ssf) which has been fun up to know. Still learning, but a long time hack and slash player (Diablo 1/2, Torchlight, Titans Quest etc) so its not as complex as I kept reading about.
That being said since you don't want clicking around a Witch starter into generic minion builds is a safe play. Early game raging spirits can get you far and you can easily fork into minions of all branches, solo gear farming is viable.
Alternative if you want something more pro level then a miner build will get you pretty far pretty fast with next to no trading but its the opposite of what you asked for by less clicking.
Most builds will not really be viable for someone that's never played PoE1 unless your willing to look up youtube guides for things such as righteous fire. Since the lack of a trade means you have to be looking for gear that enabled most builds before the build is better than being unarmed.
The three main differences better the games for me are. 1. PoE1 is crisp due to the older diablo 2 style graphics, you see what you need to and a bare minim of useless fluff such as foliage and terrain elevation. The second being the exponentially more content mechanics by way of delirium being much more in depth, rogues (despite being gutted for poe2 feature test), blight (the code of which is still in poe 2 haha), heist (the items not so much the gameplay), sanctuary and so on. And then it ties into much more diverse gems and interactions with support gems/much more in depth passive tree.
The reason i mention the above as that is where i would be comparing the two games as they are very similar but i believe that's an accurate snapshot of differences where PoE2 falls over and drools on itself while PoE 1 looks like its exponentially more advanced. atm i think the only benefit PoE 2 has is the better graphics which for me is a net negative due to strain on video card and on screen irrelevant garbage - for example any build using flaming ground effects now means you almost cant see much for 30+ seconds.
