Lightning Tendrils Question.
So, I really like using ":Lightning Tendrils", But I was wondering something about how it works with support Gems. I am using "Lightning Tendrils" with the support gem "Life Gain on Hit". Which has the description "+10 Life gained for each enemy hit by the supported attack" But Lightning Tendrils hits 4 times, each time you cast the ability.

So I was wondering, would I get healed 4 times every time I activate lightning tendrils, or only 1 time?

Tendrils doesnt 'Hit', its a cast/Spell, so you wouldnt leech. Life gain on hit needs an 'Attack' not a Spell. You need a Spell support, which grants life based on damage, like 'Life Leech'.

Small correction: Tendrils does hit (for example, Curse on Hit triggers off spells just fine). But yes, it's not an Attack and so won't work with LGOH.

use concentrated effect for 50% more damage, increased area of effect. spell echo, faster casting, lightning penetration
Does the spell echo burn your mana up? I'm using lightening tendrils with grace/thunder and have enough for everything else I want with some totems. Will echo use up my mana?
Yes and no.

it does have 130% mana multiplier and increases cast speed, thus you will use more mana/s if you are continuously using the skill.

On the other hand you will cast 2 spells for the prise of one, so mana/spell goes kinda down.

at level 20 gem you are looking at:
1.3 (mana mult) * 0.5 (from casting the spell twice and paying for it once) * 1.69 (cast speed multiplier) = 1.0985

so kinda about 10% more mana used

EDIT: L1 spell echo gem will actually use slightly less mana. only 1.5 cast speed multiplier at level 1. But in most cases you will want to level up it, even if it increases your mana use a bit.

TL;DR;

Yes if you stand still spamming spell, you will use more mana than you would without it
Yes it is totally worth it
Yes. When you go from 3L > 4L > 5L > 6L you will burn more mana, but you should have gear/skills from tree to compensate or use flask if not.

Spell echo dosent work with if from what i've seen.

Spell Echo *DOES* work with Tendrils, and has a 130% Multiplier, so it will use more Mana, at level 1, Tendrils uses 5 mana per cast, with Echo, Tendrils uses 6.5 mana per cast.

At level 20, Tendrils uses 26 mana per cast, with echo, it will use 33.8 mana per cast. But the benefit is Tendrils, instead of casting once for 5 mana (at level 1), it Echo's (Casts twice) for a total of 6.5 mana.

To check if it works, see if the tool tip of Lightning tendrils, in its picture you will see little letters, Spell echo shows up as a 'k', and in the tool tip you are looking for '50% more cast speed' (For level 1, up to 69% for level 20).

On my tendrils.., I have the letters k, l and f.

k (Echo)
l (Added Lightning Damage)
f (Faster Casting).

Thanks. Forgot to mention this. Also if you have more skills linked to tendrills than just echo, they will also have mana multiplier.

Also just to make it clear. While it increases mana use only 10% per spell casted during continuous casting, in reality it will over double the mana drain @L20 (mostly due increased cast speed). Not sure how to explain this perfectly in English. But depending how you look at it both arguments are true.

At high levels mana regen is usually no issue for spell casters, but the game can be quite mana intensive during early levels, and using potions is perfectly normal.

Also as a side note. If you are looking at builds from internet sources, remember that those are usually end game builds. It's not possible to run multiple 60% or 40% auras in early levels, and still have enough mana left to use skills. It's only possible with high level reduced mana gem linked to auras and/or some reduced mana reserrved skills from tree. So you will have to decide what gives you most benefit untill you can use them all..
