Crashing almost constantly
As of very recently, PoE1's been crashing frequently, almost constantly for no rhyme or reason - after loading a character, entering a map, running into an NPC, and more. This hasn't been an issue when I played it last 4 months ago. Graphics settings doesn't seem to affect crashing (whether min'ning, maxing, optimizing, etc. the settings).

Anyone else running into this issue? I threw in a thread in the forums, but wanted to see if anyone has a solution or workaround.

Running a Windows 10 O/S. No hardware changes since 4 months ago (when the game was working just fine).

Try changing the renderer to DirectX 11 or 12, or Vulkan, in the game settings.

If it's Windows 10, and you don't have hyper threaded cores, that's going to happen.
You don't need hyper threading cores if it's Linux; because Linux and proton definitely performs miracles at this point in time.
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to help much. I can at least load the character, but maps are crashing to the point to where I can't even get through the loading screen.
I can confirm that my CPU has hyperthreading. I wonder what changed?
I'll just turn this into a notepad I guess: Seems that a good number of maps are broken. As soon as I walk through the portal (namely Lava lake), the game crashes. The campaign (as far as I can tell, anyway) works just fine.

Same here. I am lucky if I can get past the log-in screen, and even if I manage that I still end up freezing and crashing a few loading screens later. I thought it might be a windows 11 update but reverting back did nothing, just like the dozen other fixes I've tried. Game is essentially unplayable for me at this point
I just downloaded the game and when i finished creating my character the game crashed so i restarted the game and after going to the first town the game crashed again and now every time I start the game it crashes. any idea on how to fix it

Then you just have a 'map mod' problem.

I actually never heard of that. Can you elaborate? Thanks!
Looks like it crashes on specific maps. Odd...

Have been crashing constantly on my m4 mac giving up :(
Upgrade to Win 11.
I fixed this, by changing to DX12, from DX11. In the main settings of the game.
Thanks for the input ^_^
Unfortunately, upgrading to Windows 11 is not an option... for now.
Changing to DX12 doesn't fix the issue, sadly.

The game's now crashing 100% on Twilight Strand, so new characters are not an option anymore :(
Couldn't get into Twilight Strand either. Oh well they are pushing their new game and don't want competition from the first iteration so it will likely be made to fail. Those 8000 players could be added to the 250K playing the new game! The one that costs money! The one that's in early access and will be in early access probably for the next decade! They're not going to support this janky mess. They have a new janky mess to sell you.
