Executing the Immortal Syndicate
Does "execute" in New Zeeland English have a second meaning closer to "promote"?
I want to finish those thugs off and not promote them.
Is it because every goon there rally is immortal? Still, if an Immortal is kicked in their ***, how does this validate his promotion to next rank? Did you find anything in the lore?

They get a promotion If they are executed with another member of the syndicate witnessing that they didnt say anything but rather die.

The last interrogated member will never be promoted.

The idea is that their leader wields an artifact that allows true resurrection, Horns of Kulemak they're called, I believe, and so when you execute them, the leader of the Syndicate brings them back. That's the jist of the conflict - Jun with your help tries to fight those who cannot be stopped by death, merely postponed, so in order to achieve victory you need to gather information from them by investigating them and revealing their locations just so that you might happen to find the leader to put them to blade.
That said, sometimes you are presented with an opportunity to remove someone from the Syndicate by their choice, and if it so happens that certain person in configuration gives you hell or their potential reward from safehouses is not wanted, you may seize the opportunity to kick them out and get somebody else in their place.
Gameplay reasoning for promoting them is that a) leadership in divisions might change b) people with more ranks give more intelligence while interrogated and c) their rewards in safehouses are better (I believe).

Ok so...

In the before times we had 8 different quest masters. There were all sort of annoying. I kinda liked Vagan and Elreon though. Vagan would just have a random room where he would yell at you: YOU THERE, COME FIGHT ME and he would always have some different weird build that he would duel you with. Elreon had some interesting ones but they were mostly like, heres a thing, stop the monsters from blowing up the thing.

The important one for this is Catarina. She would appear in your maps and be like, hey dumbass go pick up corpses for my corpse pile and make you do stupid crap like conditionally kill monsters. Lorewise she found a magic thingy and it let her resurrect people instead of just making them zombies and whatnot. So every time you tell Jun to execute someone, Catarina just brings them back to life. Hence the name Immortal Syndicate.

So some of the people in the syndicate aren't actually all bad people, like Haku got exiled for being black/Karui or whatever. People in Oriath are pretty racist. Haku used to be an exorcist. Elreon got exiled for speaking out about the church's insanity. Vagan was a duelist who got exiled for romancing the wrong woman, or something like that. Vorici is a straight up dink though.

The immortal syndicate looks like a rather complicated aspect of the game. I will have to read up on it at some stage before trying it again.

And none of that lore is available at all in game anymore right (expect for Vorici I think)? That was the real betrayal for that league, stripping away lore.

They're Immortal they continuously return. It makes me think of Shadow of Mordor if you didn't truly kill an orc it came back stronger. LoL. Similar not the same of course. Promoting is a good thing but they also have to be in the correct safehouses.

I think the lore might be on the board in Lioneye's Watch. Pieces of their missions are in the game still, they're really just earlier versions of stuff that's in the game now.

Haku's missions were the same idea as Heist except you get chased by ghosts at the end. Zana did what Kirac does now with maps. Tora had you kill some corrupted mutant monsters, you can get a similar mission from Kirac now. Leo's stuff went to Maramoa. Elreon's quests were pretty similar to what Ritual and Ultimatum content is. Catarina and Vorici's quests got straight up removed because they were annoying things like 'don't kill this hostile guy with 5 hp who throws himself in your aoe'

If you want one thing to take away from Betrayal, get rid of Guff and Gravicius. Neither of them will ever give you anything useful. Gravicius deals with low quality divination cards and Guff just makes stupid boxes with junk currency.

This is actually true. As for Divination cards even with the current changes it makes it even worse. lol. Cards are everywhere of course. I haven't tried it but I assume with the current harvest craft changes it might be possible to keep rerolling until you get valuable cards. It's only 75 red lifeforce to do it. That'd be much better then getting a common item from a syndicate.
