How do Traps and the Spell Totem work together?

I tried to combine this two, explicitely the Fire Trap. ST description implies it will work, but I will cast the normal FT. Please help.

Spell totem "casts" the spell it's linked to, however, traps aren't "casted". When you use a trap, you "throw" it, just like you "lay" a mine.

It works the other way around though. You can link trap (the support gem), spell totem and a spell to throw a trap that will activate the totem when triggered which in turn will cast the linked spell.
