And it only gets harder, srry not to discourage you in any way but its the truth. That being said PoE can be a little daunting at first and if its your first trip into the genre then there are some things to be "learned" but once that hurdle is passed you will feel right at home. I would recommend maybe watching ZiggyD's Beginners Guide on Ytube to get a feel for what you are in for and get a grip on the basics, good luck and have fun :)

Edit: Got almost 400hrs and im still learning things so i would say just hang in there :)

The game is hard because in reality if it was easy it wouldn't feel that much as a challenge and people would get bored after a while. Also it would make it easy for everyone to make a build that can kill all the bosses without much effort. If you want a game that is designed to make you feel awesome by just playing it, I think this is not the best game.

However after investing time into the game you feel that you get better at it which feels more rewarding that being amazing by just playing it without much effort.

The first two acts are actually considered very easy - experienced players breeze through those in less than an hour. However, they may very well _seem_ hard to new players, because new players usually don't know how to build their character, which gear to choose, how to craft good gear, and which defenses are needed at which part of the game.

If you tell us more about your build, gear, and where exactly you are stuck, we can give more specific advice.

I don't think Diablo 2 is much easier than Path of Exile. I remember Duriel absolutely trouncing my first two characters, but then breezing through entire acts with my third one. It's all a matter of learning the game, learning what makes a good build, and improving while you play.

That said, PoE offers a lot more freedom in the ways how you can develop your character or improve your gear. This freedom makes the game very interesting for many players, but it also means that players have a higher risk of creating a 'bad' build than in the much more railroaded character development system of Diablo 2.

But anyway, if you don't feel like learning PoE, but still enjoy D2, then have fun playing that! :) PoE will probably still be around if you want to give it another shot at a later date.

Been playing path for 4000 hours now (played before the game was even on steam hence i got almost no time played on it here) and even i'm still learning about how to get wealthier and such. This game is tons of fun and due to it's steep learning curve it can discourage new players but reward the ones that stay. Right now i'm on my journey to lvl 100 and i feel like that's the only thing i haven't done yet. That means that even after 4000 hours i haven't done everything yet. This game is fantastic! :))
I'm just going back to diablo 2.

Okay. Bye quitter!

Vindicator good for you. Nice seeing a productive person just... no actually to hell with sarcasm, instead of being an ass maybe give a tip to the poor person?
Any way, try using decoy totem, trust me it makes the game much easier. I didn't play much but so far no enemy has proven to resist it, just cast a totem, hit a foe couple of times, quaff a mana potion, rinse and repeat, enemies won't even attack you. Just look out to not level it above your characters level, but honestly as far as i seen its preatty much impossible.
EDIT: Actually i don't even know if it has requirements the totem, just look at the requirements when you level it up and be sure to fulfil them.

There are plenty of beginner guides out there. Once you get the hang of the game, and its mechanics, your pace (and survivability) will improve alot. Funny that you mention D2 as well, i kinda get a heavy d2 vibe from this game.

Some skills/abilities are awful. You probably picked one that is terrible and useless as your main damage skill. Read some guides, get an idea of what skills and what type of build you want.
I find this game hard at times, but love it. I have Diablo 3 RoS, its fun, but on a different level. I like this for a deeper, darker, multi choice path to choose. If you can play Diablo 2, you should be able to pick up on this fairly easy.

For me, Diablo 3 and POE I do not compare, since I enjoy both. But this game has killed Marvel Heros 2015 for me, everytime I play that, I come right back to this & uninstall MH. This game is golden.

Try a different character.

Melee tanky is good, but sometimes I need a ranger to play, hit and run type of a deal. The Witch seems to be made of glass, a strong wind & she is dead, least for me in the early going, but hot damn, she hits like a Nuclear Explosion!!!
