Can you actually totally screw up a character build?
I have been a long time fan of Diablo and decided to play some PoE because its free and awesome ! I have a level 15ish Marauder. Im working kinda on a ground slam build, but dont want to follow someones elses build point for point. Can I do my own thing without screwing myself in endgame or no? BTW its my second character. First one I deleted because he sucked :/

Yes, it's quite easy lol, taking too many attack nodes and not enough def, or something like taking eldritch battery and chaos innoculation.

Oh yeah, totally. The worst thing you can do though is not stack tonnes and tonnes of survivability. Going full glass cannon will get you to level 70 fast but you'll never live past the easiest end game maps. (let alone those act 4 bosses.)

Wow, good to know I just started playing aswell.

If you don't know what type of character you're going to pick (Scion, Maurader, etc) and no idea what skills you're gonna use, then I suggest just picking up whatever character you want and only put points into defensive nodes. Such as life, regeneration, etc and after some gameplay settle for a skill and skill accordingly. You'll do fine like that until 60-70, at which point you're probably going to struggle with dps and need to invest into offensive nodes.

Yup...managed to bugger up 2 so far with the passive tree reset.

Don't let that deter you though, if you have just started i'd always recomend one of the cheap builds to follow, then atleast you can have a character there to farm on and open up more possible builds as the gear drops

Never say never. I got to 80's in hc with full glass cannon.

It was cancer and I don't recommmend it to anyone.

My shadow magma orb got 3.5k hp and is lvl 78, i am training him for Atziri :) However I would not advice this as a first character.

3.5k means you did take some life passives opposed to not taking any defense at all

Yup..... That's what really turned me away from this game. Made it to act 3 of merciless and that's when I realized I could go no further. I decided to glass cannon and literally couldn't take one hit with my ranger. Major mistake.

No. I started a few new characters but failed to continue to be interested. It wasn't a conscious decision.

Yes its very easy to, if you dont look into how much life you need and care about which dps nodes to take. Defense and offense are equally important in this game.

Also you may have to remake characters several times as you may find out other character classes are more efficient at certain things.

Well it really depends how much thought you put into your build. The game is fair. If you allocate lots of skill points the wrong way, then it's your fault. If you messed up just a few, you can always use Regret Orbs.

You can't just build a toon on the go. You need a plan.

I can't stop recommending new players to use this web: https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree

It's an online tree builder and on the right side of the screen you get exact numbers of every stat and effects you gain accordingly to the skill points you allocated.

yes its damn easy if not have a plan you will not be able to play at very high levels
