Is it possible to play offline?
As a new player I just want to experience the story without being spammed in chat or seeing 50 other players in towns etc. Is it possible to play the game offline, like Diablo? Maybe there is an option I just haven't noticed somewhere. :)

No, all gameplay happens on the servers, you client just shows you an approximation of it.

You can however e.g. enter /dnd mode to not be bothered by chat, unjoin or mute the channels via options or a click on their headers.

If you don't want to see too much other players, opt into solo self found mode upon character creation (unlocks after first beating act 3), way less players there. If you don't want any others, choose a league in which only you play, so most likely start a private league: https://www.pathofexile.com/private-leagues - but those only last so long. For what it's worth, after the tutorial (sometimes called campaign or story), there's hardly ever a reason to join any town.

No online only. You can just turn off the chat but you will still see others in towns though.

You can deactivate chats and you rarely see more than a few players in a town.

While you can't play this game offline it is very easy to play solo and ignore every other player.

Alright then, thanks. I'll just ignore other players for now, I want to experience the game by myself at least once.
