Magic grant more time than normal and rare grant even more, so with the "at least magic" atlas passiv you can quite quickly ramp up to a 60s or even 90s timer in the incursion, if your DPS is high enough.
Depending on your DPS and other factors you might want to rush the architect or do a sort of spiral (first going a few enemies into the unwanted part, then going back to the wanted half, preferably without much overlap) before going to the boss to get some time.
And yes, packs of white enemies aren't worth much time. The incursions are supposed to be somewhat hectic (until they become a joke again when you out-scale the content), it's not uncommon to "fail" some at first. Prioritize what you want, if you have to. Open rooms or getting the room leveled up. If you lack single target DPS and can't kill the architect, go for the rest instead.
Don't forget to zoom zoom, use your movement skill and flask in there, as you want to move quickly.
