Will PoE1 still be worth starting and playing once 2 drops?

Tldr in title.

Looking for a new online seasonal ARPG since Diablo 4's current season kinda sucks and the next one doesn't look much better, and I've gotten burnt out on Last Epoch, and I've heard a lot of good things about this game from long-time fans of the genre. Ik PoE2 is going into early access soon but I don't like buying into EA games since I've gotten burnt by some in the past, which is why I started looking into PoE1 instead.

Do you folks think it'll still be worth starting PoE1 with PoE2 being a thing? Will there still be new seasons and balance updates? Or should I just hold off and wait for 2 to fully release?

I think so, it'll help you out what to expect in POE2. If youre new to POE you'll be overwhelmed with the complexity, but you should be able to adapt quickly if you go in the deep end if you really want to learn. Although you can still play POE2 without POE1 as there are major improvements, but just expect the same complexity, but in a new way.

Yes, they'll still be updating PoE1.

The next PoE1 league will be in late January or early February. They're planning on staggering leagues between PoE1 and PoE2 as well.

They'll be very different games with different playstyles, but I think it's still worth playing. Like Jonathan said, he thinks the best ARPG is PoE2 and the 2nd best is PoE1.

Another reason to play, is that if they do different challenge MTX rewards in PoE1 and 2, then you'll be able to earn more free cosmetics to use in PoE2 from PoE1 and vice versa.

If you have not played PoE 1, or not played it much and experienced any endgame, now is the time to do so. The first week or so of poe 2 is probably going to be bumpy and many people may hold off and keep playing PoE 1 till the end of the current season at least.

Between now, and the official release of PoE 2, you will have the most people playing PoE 1 than anytime past that. That has a huge impact on the game, especially trading, so now is the time to get your fun out of it. PoE 2 will still be there and there will be tons of people playing it even if you wait a whole year.

PoE 1, despite what they say about continuing to support it, is almost certainly going to die, at least if half the things I have seen about PoE 2 work out. It looks like a massive upgrade in pretty much every way, which generally makes playing older versions less fun, and eventually kills them.

I do love PoE 1 and I would have continued to play it for years to come, but I just don't think I will be like "Oh, lets take a break from PoE 2 and replay 1 again" anytime in the near future (or possibly ever).

So yeah, play 1 now......it's a blast. Most of us chomping at the bit to play 2 have played 1 to death and are dying for some new content, new builds, new characters, new bosses, new items......new EVERYTHING!!.....but to you PoE 1 is still all new......so take advantage of that before you potentially ruin it by playing 2.

poe1 and poe2 are different arpg games who share same systems and lore. Yet gameplay wise and building character are different in a few ways. ATM poe1 have much more variety in builds
