You could try and finish before PoE2 comes out to experience it yourself, but there's tons of lore videos on PoE.
So the answer is yes even though most everyone skips/ignores a lot of lore, the game actually has a very complex/indepth setting full of eldritch mystery like a Lovecraftian novel. Almost all uniques have descriptions that have some insight on it all but very hard to piece together correctly.
I say keep playing and maybe check out some lore videos that are mostly speculation on what the hell is actually going on. :p
Since the Atlas does not extend into the Cosmos or whatever this time and seems to have more to do with the world at large and the Vaal, I would say one the important things is to understand that the Vaal, Queen Atziri and her mirrors are all static and constant in all the chaotic/dyspotian multiverses/timelines supposedly.
The Elder Evil stuff seems less important in PoE2 and our PoE1 Champions are probably still stuck as Champions of the Maven by choice (or not). :P
Thanks for the answers! I'll try and rush it as best as possible.
