POE 2 Engine and CPU Engine Multithreading bug
I was wondering, will they finally be able to fix the Engine Multithreading in POE2? I have an old CPU, but it runs all recent games just fine thanks to the 8 cores, but the option in POE 1 is bugged af, and can't use the value of my CPU in a way it should, resulting in constant slutters, which might or might not appear when i am launching the game (so i have to relaunch like 100 times before i can actually play it without lags). I am really hoping this won't be an issue with PoE 2, unless they are running on the same engine, then we bros with old CPUs might be screwed.

They use the same in-house engine, possibly with some slight modifications.

This is a rather niche problem for a minority of players, so i understand why they haven't fixed it, even tho it was there for more than 6 years i think, it makes more sense to invest time into elsewhere, but damn it is such a bummer to open the game and see it sluttering, i even have a playlist on spotify which is like 20-30 minutes long called PoE launching playlist, i listen to it while i constantly close and open the game hoping to see CPU metrics in F1 menu not jumping all over the place.

There were instances where it completely killed the mood to play the game when i had to spent more than half an hour and it wouldn't work. Well, i don't know exactly what makes it work in the first place, i just use the method i randomly came up with, reopening the game lol. What's depressing is that nobody really found a solution, from all the threads i saw so far on this issue.

There is obviously an option to play without the Engine Multithreading, but single core gives me 30-40 fps at max, with frame drops to 10 fps when its a juiced t16 map, so the only real solution is upgrading my hardware it seems, but unfortunately i can't afford it just yet.

Maybe it will work differently in PoE 2, that would definitely be a welcome surprise :chaos:

Remember, that you are often connecting to the same instances, over and over.

If you exit the game because your hideout is lagging and come back, it might still be the same hideout instance on the same server. You would see no difference.

Hold Ctrl when clicking on a portal to make a new instance of an area, or join different instances that are still open. You can also go to something like Kingsmarch (current league), Menagerie (Einhar) or Mine Encampent (Niko) to quickly get a fresh instance.

The same goes for re-entering map portals. Even if you log out, close the game, relaunch and change servers, the map will still be "stuck" on the same server, same instance, same lag.

This will also be true for maps/areas that are laggy for some non-network related reason (assuming all other areas run better).

That unfortunately won't help because the root of the issue is not in the server. I don't even need to log in, the lag spikes begin in the main menu.

I know your talking about CPU but have you tryed changing the graphic engine from direct X to Vulcan?
I have a massive amount of stutters in direct X (making the game unplayable) but in Vulcan it's flawless.

Yea, tried Vulkan, DX11, and DX12. It doesn't reflect on this slutter issue, but performance wise, DX12 gives me stable 60 fps for the most part of the game, while DX11 and Vulkan can drop a bit even without the screen exploding.

Stupid idea. Have you tried, after launching the game, going to the task manager and changing the cpu affinity for the path of exile EXE? Like removing 1 or 2 just to see what happens.
Task manager > Details tab > find poe EXE > right click > set affinity
Good luck.
(Warhammer Darktide had this issue when it launched, to the point that the launcher for the game would allow you to limit the amount of cores that the game used

I had the same problem as Op and tried every solutions I could find on the web but was still getting micro-stutters... Until trying the cpu affinity trick!
I have 12 threads.... At first I tried setting the affinity to use the first four and that did not work, then I tried 8 and no more stuttering :) So, experiment with this to see if that's the solution for you

I will try it out, you used the core 0 as well? I have 16 threads, gonna experiment tomorrow.

yes, core 0 is the first one, so to use 8 I select 0 to 7
dd2player Nov 24, 2024 @ 6:17am
super slideshow under proton, while permanently above 100 fps, there is no adequate excuse

affinity or not, this became one of the worst performing games on my rig i ever played throughout my whole life and this exact one has enough juice for any amount of A's
