If you want, you can create a new character in the Standard league and see how you like the game. Maybe even play through Acts 1 and 2 in the campaign.

Just do the in-game Tutorial stuff, learn to equip items and skills, learn about linking support gems. Kill monsters and have fun :)

You can go to the Vendor in town and buy other skill gems to try out as well, you are not stuck with the quest reward gems.

If there's something you don't understand, you can ask question on the forums or chat, or look it up online. But, don't worry about it too much. You might end up reading about some stuff that mostly appears in the late game and is very rare in the actual Campaign.

Don't worry about making mistakes. You can change everything about your character except the starting class, you can equip any weapon type at any time and change skill gems at will (as long as you meet the stat and level requirements).

Re-speccing Passive Points can be done, but do note that it is a bit costly if you have to do it a lot. While leveling, you shouldn't really do it. Just leave the "wrong" points in and continue leveling, worry about them later (unless you picked something like "Cannot deal non-fire damage" and you actually do want to use other damage types).
Don;t follow any youtubers or streamers they r fake asf , learn game via Trials and errors u will learn more also this upcoming league is ideal for making currency easy . Melee always bad even with many buffs unless u have multiple mirror worth items , spells though slight better but r best if it's traps or mines or minions not otherwise .

Yeah, sure, there are 10,000+ choices to try and 90% of them are trash that will destroy your character.

Read some guide before you jump in, if you don't have 500+ hours to spare on this frustrating puzzle game.

Don't give a shet about "trial and errors", it won't work in POE, your 10 years knowledge of POE will be gone with a few snaps of the dev's fingers anyway, since they can change any rules as they please.

Ignore this troll.

People have played the game without guides before, including me. The game isn't as complicated as people claim, there's just a lot of things that combine to create complexity.

I'm trying to save new player's playtime, he will get more freedom when he has at least 1 meta character to farm any content he wants.

While you guys are trying to waste hundred hours of his life time by telling him to go in blind, let he stuck at level 20 boss and unable to get to more content.

Better ask yourself who is the real troll here?

If you need 500+ hours of trial and error to figure out "click monster, monster dead", that's a you problem. If you lose 10 years of knowledge when a little detail changes, that's a you problem.

Show us the play through of you struggling with a level 1 character using a random skill gem, and we can talk :)

Don't play it now as a new player. If you will want to follow the story, starting from end of chapter 4 maps gets broken. After every major quest chain game crashes and you need to do some magical tricks in order to go forward through the story. It's really a parody now. Not sure it was caused by latest update or was like that before. I myself came back to the game after long time and find it unplayable. Look around the forums how many people have the same issues. PoE as a game is good but if it doesnt work then playing it will bring you only frustration and wasted time as you will have to redo a lot of maps during your way forward. Also, at the end of each map you going to be asking yourself "is it going to work this time or it will crash? Should I do a portal to the city before entering new zone because it tend to fix certain crashes or not this time?"... and no, validating files or changing settings or even your computer wont help, its a coding issue.

Believe whatever you want.

In the end, most players with the right mind will pick my option "save 100+ of hours by following guides", not your "waste 100+ hours repeating same things over and over while getting no reward".

Unless they are a masochist ofc.

The problem is u r cause more trouble for new players than good , U r telling new player to follow a youtuber or a guide which would not have been a problem if most were not fake or bait starter or bait builder who likely or likely not use unethical way earned currency . Next of is rare items , which is random mods some gets lucky some do not and to craft some needs huge amount of currency which new players less likely have , ya if it was all full unique build then it is some what easier to replicate build seen but otherwise very very hard thus it is better to see and understand themselves how good it is by experimenting . Besides unlike other leagues this one will have much better advantages like having actual auction house or using gold to respec like these so is better to make their own instead following randoms ones or so called popular ones .

Start playing now to learn the basics, just use the ingame tutorial to get started

Start off picking a beginner friendly build, many will be solo self found which is good. Youll want to watch a video maybe and get POE builder and watch how to use it....this is the scary complicated stuff that scares people.

Once you have an easy to use build guild set up, then its a matter of dodging confusing past league content you dont understand, and not keeping their unique drops. Pick like two you think look interesting and look them up on youtube so you can get value out the content. Just skip the rest youll be fine.

Other than that dont expect to do it all hit max level and clear everything. Have fun with the build.

You may find an item that makes you want to try a new build, this is good.

Two things will overwhelm, the build, which a guild and POE builder will make easier to understand, and all the past seasonal content which imo is all optional and can overwhelm and fill your stash with trash youll never utilize.

get a beginner build guide and try to play through the campaign right now, you will learn lots of stuff.
