is PoE 2 planned to be as "complex" as PoE?
i really like PoE, bought a couple MTX for ~30€ to support GGG but it turned out to be more of a spreadsheet simulator and reading 800 letter descriptions of gems rather than just a quick two hour monster slaying session.
it's great just as it is. i don't want it to change because the audience plays it for a reason.

but will PoE 2 double down on that, simplify or stay like PoE 1? (if that's even known by now)

You can just pick a skill and get to killing. You can also freely change out skill and support gems. If you are unsure how they work, you can just equip a different one and see if your character is now killing things faster. You can even do it in the middle of a fight if you are quick.

You don't need to open a spreadsheet unless you want to min-max your build.

If you want to get a strong character that is close to min-maxed, you can follow a guide. This way you can avoid doing calculations or comparisons and just stick to what someone else has decided works well.

There is also an in-game tutorial and guide in the in-game menu

I haven't followed PoE 2 as much as some, but from everything I have seen - it will be roughly as complex as PoE.

Of course, it will be complex in different ways. It is unlikely to have nearly as many sub-systems as Path of Exile 1 for example - at least at launch - since Path of Exile 1 has years of updates and expansion-type stuff that added tons of content, much of which is honestly unnecessary (like tons of extra skill trees and the like).

But it includes complex abilities, a complex passive skill tree, and an insane amount of flexibility in building your character. Obviously if you think PoE is too complex to understand though, PoE2 is unlikely to be much different. For my part, PoE takes me only a fraction of the time to "read" things and I enjoy actually building my characters - so the "800 letter descriptions" add to my experience rather than detracting from it.

Most of Path of Exile 2's changes from what I know are to improve gameplay and streamline things, but the core design philosophy behind the skills and such is similar. For example - adding WASD movement that particularly benefits those using ranged combat builds, having far more environmental interactions, having swappable gems and passive skill tree points you can dynamically switch between various effects on (so you can switch from lightning buffs to cold buffs on different weapons for example on the fly), and so on.

I would just keep an eye on PoE2 and try it when it comes out. Personally I'm really hyped up for it - the gameplay looks amazing (check the class feature trailers).

But it probably won't be much simpler. It will be simpler in the sense it won't have a decade of bloat - they are picking and choosing and will be streamlining things to an extent since they have a whole new game - but the core complexity will remain.

Oh well. When I look at poe1, everything there just got worse over time. So everything playable was ruined and the game is now a slave simulator.
and good games constantly improve engines and fps increases enormously. Everything has been so ruined here that even monster PCs usually only have 9 fps in big fights. but is the gfx any good? Nope... looks just as ugly as it did in 2013, but the screen is full of garbage and you can't even react to deadly effects within a millisecond.

so why should the poe2 be better? Or how can you expect improvement from people who never learn anything and COMPLETELY ignore feedback from players for many years?

"Same depth, less complexity" is how the director is quoted as describing it recently. We'll have to see how hard they stick to that and how true it ends up being ^^

The only good thing is that you can test it for free. (hopefully).
because I'm more than sure that it will be uninstalled too quickly afterwards. gameplay videos don't convince poe1 players at all.

Every new PoE "1" skill looks like ♥♥♥♥ when they release trailers. They want players to see what the skills look like and see their animations.

The trailer characters are using a very low level skill with no gear just so they can show off mechanics. They rarely show endgame content.

PoE 2 looks slow and boring for the same reason. Bad items, low level skill gems, under leveled characters. They also intentionally play the game more slowly to showcase things.

When the players got a chance to try out the game it was better, but they were also forced to use bad items, under leveled characters and intentionally harder monsters.

POE 2 is just gonna be 3 skill choices, and 1 button, no inventory.
