essence drain
I don't know if it's just me but I feel that essence drain does not spread past the first contagion explosion. contagion gets spread but not essence drain.

Try addinn chaos damage nodes plus some increased area support gem.

i'm level 50 something with a 4 link for both. it was working fine yesterday but after i got a patch its been strange. didnt know if it was just me

There was a bug, vapid. Look on reddit. I don't know if they fixed it yet. It was broken in 2.2, GGG acknoledged it, maybe it's not fixed yet.

They said they fix it right away with a hot fix, maybe reload your game, i think it fixed now
