Is it worth starting in the "newest" poe league or wait for the next?
I've heard this season will most likely end mid january.

Really depends what you wanna do. If you want to play the current heist mechanic then start now. If you don’t care then play standard. If you want to play the new league only then wait for the next league.

There is a 3-week-long flashback event starting tomorrow. I'd join that if I was just about to start playing. It will end about the time the current league ends.
