Yeah, better play it safe.
Nö ,,
found out it was CPU problem for me (i5-2500, gtx970, 8GB RAM)
go to:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile
and backup all files inside somewhere and delete them
open up the game and then go in game options,
in the performance metrics, enable "graph details" to "All graphs", enable "show bars" and put transparency to max
observe the details top right on the screen next to minimap and see the MS values. If CPU is not stable and spike between high and low, (In my case CPU was spiking to 20-30 MS too high) you will see FPS getting lowering and studder happening every few seconds.
Fix:
go in game options, scroll bottom to advanced settings and disable:
"Engine Multithreading"
I saw immediately stable CPU MS values, graphs doesn't keep changing and stable 60 FPS sustained. Both CPU and GPU values at 11-12 MS
I just came here to share news and need more testings on this one. If it is solved the issue for you, let me know.
Your workaround actually helped me! But I did discovered something horrible! While setting up the CPU & GPU overlays I saw my cpu going from 13ms to 70ms like terrible fast, from low to high like a heart attack.
This is something that was never happened me before my time in PoE (more than 1k hours). I cannot stress enough how tasking this is on your cpu health, be careful.
And yes, after disabling Multithreading option I got back to a stable 9 to 13 CPU MS. Jesus.
While not a definitive "fix" you can play at back again at a stable rate until GG fix this BIG problem, sometime soon, hopefully.
Also, I did the dx-11 thing "dx11-refresh that someone else mentioned and maybe that helped as well..
