Ruthless
I am very excited. As soon as the update finishes I'll be taking a character on. Anyone else already started theirs?

Leveling a Ranger and it's incredible so far. Drop rates almost feel similar to D2, in that rares are actually rare, uniques are extremely rare and Support gems are now one of the most sought after things in the entire mode. Hell, even currency items are rare finds. Just be prepared to potentially get stuck grinding to beat bosses, especially if you play SSF, because the drops really are nerfed to the ground.

Drop rate sux again? Everything what was good got nerfed? This is great news! ///sarcastic/// 24/7 fanboys love all nerfs in this crappy game. No-life grinders have very boring life, they are sticked to their computers, avoiding challenges in real world so they are looking for more challenges in games :D Sorry guys, games should be for entertainment purposes, not for heavy grinding. Don't waste time for hard work which doesn't give you money.

pick the game mode you enjoy, no need to bash others for enjoying something you don't.

I wounder what build would be optimum for ruthless. I assume something simple like elemental damage bow or magic damage from mana / barrier to ap[ply to most spells. Something where most drops will work with your build.

I am going for a strong defense with regen and shield(templar), so far it is working just fine. Shield is so much higher value with it's relatively scarcity though. So far it works pretty well but I've just begun.

That's not what Ruthless does.

No, this is not correct.

Undigging this thread because since I love the idea of a more punishing mode, I've got a couple questions about Ruthless mode.

- Can the game be beaten in this mode? I read stuff from the devs from 2022 saying that it's experimental and they're not sure if all the content can actually be beaten in ruthless mode.
- Also even though i'm aware loot has been severely nerfed, can you get all the skills and get a decent set up anyway?

I just would like to know if it's worth investing time in this.

I've played SSFR last year reaching lvl 86 but left it cos D4 came out and wanted to play it. The league I played back then they've said was the most scarce of everything and I gotta agree with that statement lol I mean I was happy as a mf when alc drops. I went in without any preparation and had a rough start, but in couple days you figure things out. You can expect to go on 4L for a lot of time... I mean I gotta check but I think when I stopped playing at lvl86 I was still 4L.

- I'm not sure if you can finish it, but the biggest problem for me was the map drops rate, which was super slow no matter that all of the passives were distributed for map drops. I've seen some youtubers to say that because of the mechanic of the league you can consider lvl95 as lvl100 in the other leagues.

- I don't know what you think is a decent setup, but if you manage to do some 5L set up you'll be lucky. A lot of the supports and some skill gems are not there as well as far as I remember and the Holy Grail- Determination/Grace are drops only and rare like a mirror. I played Vortex, btw. Ahhh yeah, you don't have movment skills except one which is only in Ruthless and it has like 10 sec cooldown XD

I would defo say that it worth your time, but you better do your research before you start or you'll have a bad time in Ruthless.

I didn't get everything since I didn't play PoE much (only 100h :) ), like D4, 5L, but thanks for your feedback :D
I love the idea of having a harder experience, but i need to know that the experience is still a good one. That helped, thanks! :)

The mode can be easily beaten, less quantity of items drop, support gems and auras you don't need to think until they drop (Had one drop at lvl 55, some had one at 70+ lvl, there's some lucky people too).
So much less stuff drops that you don't even need a loot filter.

Most movement skills are changed to ruthless specific dash ability you get in the shore.
You can buy up to 3 skill gems per character with uncarved gems in A3 from library.
And vendor recipes dont include something trivial like X% phys dmg to weapon with a belt.

Less confusing for new users as there's less stuff in the face and to miss.
Pace is slower and you can focus on grind.

Downside is that currency is so low that you cannot have a hide in chance of earning regret orbs for reworking your passives against lucky drops. That and the grind being so high in later content that its hard to get regular satisfaction on progress past the story. Or heck even the later chapters of the campaign.

That's great, cheers for that. Out of curiosity, has this mode been reworked now and then since it's creation?
