Hit a wall at Tier 8/9 Maps
I've been giving the maps 20% through cartogs, making sure to scour/alch until I get magic and/or rare monster increase with some pack size and then I'll craft either Anarchy or Onslaught with Chaos through the map device. I've seen one tier 9 map drop and one tier 10 map drop and I've done about 35-40 Tier 8/9 maps. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? The map quantity after all the crafting is always at the very least 90, usually closer to 100. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'd also like to mention that I only play solo. It's not that I don't want to play in parties but I'm kind of lazy :P Would looking for a guild to join to run maps with help out at all? Not sure if running with a group helps with the drop rate or not.

dont use your chaos on maps, not until t12 onwards.

Its very common to be around that tiers, however it will build up over time.Zana leveled up,can give also maps up to tier 11 and sometimes will sell a divination card for t15 maps.

Maps will come steady,at some point you will have so many t9,then you will have many t11-t12.

Just alch and go and hope for the best, kill as much as you can, open boxes, turn stones.

As stated before, the real wall is when you enter the "high-tier" maps, which starts at T12.
T12 and above are meant to have lower drop rate, and you're not really expected to be abe to maintain a map pool there (that is to drop as much or more maps than you'd use).
Under that tier, it's just a matter of quantity and getting the good mods (bosses have a 20% chance of droppng a map, so a double boss map is usually nice when trying to get those).

Well knowing that I shouldn't be using Chaos yet is great. I'm guaranteed to get there eventually then. Sucks that it takes so long but oh well. At least I know I'm not doing anything wrong. I do get some good item drops in there and I have no problem with the difficulty (although I accidentally did a twinned Malformation and got crushed :jockolaugh:) but other than the map drops I've been having a blast. Thanks for the tips, guys.

In terms of map drops they're going to be just like any other loot - some days will be good and some will be bad. My only advice is to save currency for only your highest lvl maps, try not to Chaos maps unless you get something you absolutely cannot handle, and make sure your gear is up to your level standards.

My rule of thumb when chaosing maps up to t12: 100% quantity, or 85% and 15% pack size. Any less and I reroll.

I played a scion for a while when ascendancy was released. She is lvl 90, i played with 1-2 friends at all times and we only did maps from lvl 60 onward (we also share maps). Everything tier13+ didn´t drop at all in all this time. 10-12 was pretty rare as well.

Oh yeah, Elwinds advice about Zana and the divination cards is good. I think its the most realistic chance to play a tier15 map at some point. My friends and I share those as well and now that we are lvl90 (or 91) we have 7 of those. Only one more and we can play a tier 15 map - yay!

Yeah, I've been offered 2 of those cards so far. Grabbed them of course :) Does she have a higher chance to offer it at higher levels? She's getting close to 7 on this character.

I honestly roll from tier 7+. If I can get more currency out of the map than I put in it, it's all good. Just 4 chisel, alch, roll +100 iiq, either lucky vaal or anarchy (+3c). I mean it all depends on how good or bad the init alch is.

Honestly you prolly would have more drops with iiq upwards of 150+ (on the map if that wasn't clear)

Although this is not always achieveable. Also depends on the amount of currency you are willing to spend vs how much you still need for gearing and such.

At this point in the league I don't really care, I mean Bino dropped (thrice), Perandus Signet, some ex, and so on, after that using some chaos on a map is really trivial. Espcially if break-even or even make profit with chaos recipe for total spent.

You need currency to make currency I guess ... (although trading is alot easier to obtain currency)

I'm doing the maps to try and finish off the challenges. I plan on getting the 8th trophy variation :happymeat:

EDIT: Also, do you guys still run unID'd rares at this stage?

this encapsulates probably my biggest gripe with poe endgame and that is map drops. i think its silly that t15 drops are so rare. cheapest abyss on poe.trade right now is 45c. diablo 3's grift access has it right. make me use a stone or whatever but let me farm them easily. then d3 needs to copy poe's map mod system for their grifts but i digress. the point is they let me play the difficult content i want without grinding for days for the drops or money to access it.

the challenge should be actually completing the maps not just opening the door.

Player IIQ does not affect map drops. Nor does party IIQ. The quantity on the map itself is all that matters.

Indeed. Kind of glad that this is the case as well. Would be kind of a pain to balance your gear between IIQ/R and resistances.

Running IIQ is still worth it imo. That extra chaos drop is an extra t8 map.
