Youtube speedrunners will laugh at me, but I'm having fun.
the d3 expansions were on sale over the weekend (probably still are). I grabbed the one with crusader class and playing thru the campaign again for the first time in years - it's really good. forgotten how well polished it is. and loot is way more satisfying than poe -- not too much garbage; no 3rd party filter required.
and wow, some weapons have special effects on them -- for free! I'm sure blizz will fix that for d4.
ofc, way less options for builds.. but all the options seem to be viable
OP: If you want to try one of the new skills, Zizaran has a guide for Lightning Conduit, look for it on Youtube. If you want a tried and tested build check the pathofexlie.com forum for Enki's Arc Witch.
It is not easy to play. It is not a build that you just spam ballistas. You need to learn how to move around, dodge, know when get the timing when to srike with a kamikaze frost blink.
On PoE Reddit you can find Post about this. GGG is really lazy the last few Leagues since Expedition..
My personal tipp, give D3 for this season a chance, it will suprise you how much fun it makes in comparsion to Lake of Kalandra
And install that malware called battlenet in my computer? I pass...
I just have to ask - Why did you transition if you were having fun?
The reason I say that, is I feel you may have the wrong expectations about the game - a large part of PoE is challenging yourself to learn new information, be it Crafting, build optimizations, Atlas optimizations, etc.. You then leverage your understanding of this information in order to push your character further along.
Not every build is capable of 100% clearance of all content (unless you are talking about insanely expensive meta-builds wearing hundreds of Div worth of equipment). And even then, those builds may have an easier time clearing certain content, and a more difficult time clearing others.
Perhaps shift your perspective, and be more reserved with your expectations at this time -
PoE is more about setting a goal for yourself, and then working towards attaining it. Your first goal should be playing through the Campaign, and getting to Maps (any build can accomplish this if you are willing to learn basic Crafting, and basic allocation of Passive Points). Once you are there, you should have a wealth of knowledge that you can invest in another character.
I say build your "Flame Magician" and have fun. Take it as far as you can, and learn everything you can about the game.
WRONG. PoE began development in 2007, at least a year before Diablo 3 was announced. and several years before D3 was viewable by the public in any meaningful form. Monster mods existed long before either of these games.
Your build won't be that fun when you start off. You kind lack in a lot when you start off and need to progress to where your build will be a lot more enjoyable. so example Xai's lightning conduit build you won't start of using skills like Lightning Conduit until level 28. Sometimes this means builds won't really start feeling like the build you seen advertised on youtube until white maps really and for the most part when they do start to they can only start feeling better with more of a budget.

Alpha started around 2010 and had a lot bases off of Diablo 2 which was pretty much Diablo's best game. PoE didn't release until 2013.
RF by Pohx is really good if you follow the guide and read his wiki, watch some of his videos
I too an running RF, and it sure is a blast....but it is probably the most EXPENSIVE build in the game. It really suffers on single target DPS and requires a lot of currency to roll or purchase everything you need to make the build work while also surviving.
I'm loving it, but I don't know if I'll ever play it again. It's been stressful dying all the time because you don't have 20d to buy an Aegis. Can't get beyond lvl93, and my resistances are all 86, chaos is capped.
Ask for help on his stream , some ppl in chat can help you or read his wiki, or post your pob here and il have a look
